Q:I would like to use this style of fire pit and incorporate a natural gas burner. Therefore, I dont need the insert. That being the case...:
1. What is the ID without the metal ring :
2. Gas burners need air ventilation so how can I accomplish this

Answer This Question
A: Unfortunately this product is only sold with the ring insert included and there isnt a kit item # without the insert. This item is generally used for wood fires. We have heard of other customer converting this firepit to propane (so we know it is possible) but do not know installation steps that were used to convert to gas.

Q:I want to use this pit with a natural gas burner installed around 4.5 inches below the top ledge.
I would put lava rock on the inside of the burner pan and mount the rocks to just below the top edge.
Can this design be used with a gas burner ??

Answer This Question
A: We have heard of other customers modifying this firepit to gas/propane. We do include a metal ring to protect the concrete blocks from direct flame. If your kit will leave the top caps/blocks exposed to flame there may be concern. Im unsure what the difference would be with heat temperature with the gas/propane vs wood burning. This would be at your own risk and would void any warranty if it is used without the metal ring insert that we provide. But I can tell you that others have converted this kit to gas in the past.

Q:Is the concrete used for the ring on top-of the fire pit, fire rated?Seems like a stupid question, but when i paid $300 for a concrete ring for my previous fire pit.. it was not fire rated and it split and split and fell apart.

Answer This Question
A: That is a very good question. Unfortunately Concrete is not indestructible. Excessive heat will damage all concrete. The only paver that is fire rated that we are aware of is Fire Brick. Our Ledgestone Firepit is sold with an 11 gauge steel fire ring that is included to protect the concrete blocks. The ring should be raised all the way up to protect the inside of the caps stones during installation.

Q:Can this be converted to a gas fire pit?

Answer This Question
A: We have heard of customers doing just that but we are not sure of the proper steps that they did take to do so. The steel ring is 11 gauge steel so I believe they removed that and used a gas insert and possibly cut one of the side/wall blocks if needed.
