Q:I ordered two apple trees and planted them according to directions in June. So far I have seen no change. No leaves, no growth whatsoever. The trees came with just the stem and roots. It is almost impossible to tell if it is still alive but not producing leaves or dead. It looks exactly the same as when it got delivered.

A:  Not a good sign that no leaves are appearing in over a month. May need to add starter fertilizer for fruit trees. Water frequently as well since tree may have transplant shock or tree maybe in dormant stage already. Good luck.

A:  I also ordered this and a honeycrisp at the same time (for cross pollination), It did take a while for any leaves to come up. Unfortunately, one ended up with some kind of disease in the trunk and I don't know which one it is because both trees were delivered at the same time with no tags or anything stating which was the fuji and which was the honeycrisp. Don't bother trying to get a hold of HD for assistance, they will leave a message with Online Orchards (the vendor) and the vendor will NEVER get back to you. I've tried emailing the vendor but have received no reply since April.

A:  We ordered Fuji and what arrived is labeled "Honeycrisp." We immediately potted them in moist soil in a pot. After several weeks, only one has started growing and that from below the graft. We should receive replacement.

          Answer This Question

A:  Yes, most dwarf fuji trees do well in zone 6-9. If you are in a tad higher zone portion on nine and receive less than <900 chill hours per year , in the winter, you could have no fruit later on

Q:When do I plant these trees ideally? I live in the Seattle area

            Answer This Question

A:  I live in Seattle and planted this variety before. If you ordered this from a nursery, you need to plant as soon as possible. It has probably been wrapped in something to keep it moist, but needs to get back into soil sooner than later. Btw, soak the roots at least 1 hour, ideally 2 hours is best, but no more than 6 hours. While it is soaking, dig your hole if it is in-ground or get your pot ready if potting.

                  Answer This Question

A:  I personally used potting "mix" rather than any type of soil. Potting "mix" should not contain any soil or dirt. If you do chose to use top soil in a planter or you are planting it in the ground, make sure you amend the medium with compost, peat moss (moisture retention), perlite.(drainage). Apple trees prefer an little more acidic soil with a pH range of 5.0 to 6.8, so do a soil check to ensure you add the additional amendment to bring up or down the pH to the level apple trees prefer. I've included 2 pictures because I ordered a Fuji and a Honeycrisp and neither were labeled when I received them so not sure which one is which. Please note they come bare root and are about 3 ft tall with no foliage. It is not dead but dormant. When you plant, please ensure you do not plant over the grafted section on the trunk at the bottom.

A:  Apple tree water requirements depend on rainfall. In general, for an established tree, you won't need to water it unless you are not getting much rain or there is a particularly dry spell or even drought. About an inch (2.5 cm.) or so of rainfall every week to ten days is adequate for most apple trees.
