Q:Can two of these kits be used to make a 3 X 12 bed?

Answer This Question
A: You could use two kits to make a 3 ft. x 12 ft. bed. Please keep in mind that the walls fasten together at the corners. In order to secure the walls together effectively, you would need to install a 1 in. x 4 in. backer on the inside of the bed where the two walls meet.
by|Apr 8, 2020
A: You could, but you would have to figure out a way to brace the the two 6 foot pieces together. I checked and the pieces would fit together. But it is designed to be held together with just 3 screws in each corner. If you were handy you could use the 2 extra 3 foot end pieces to design a brace.

A: The 3/16" suggestion is much too large. I used a 9/64" and was easily completed. Very nice product.

A: Cedar is very soft so no need to pre-drill holes. The screw will go in easily w the bit that fits the screw head.
by|May 5, 2023
A: We recommend using a 3/16 drill bit.
by|May 5, 2023
A: I recommend you take one of the screws to Home Depot and ask one of their staff what size drill they would suggest for pre-drilling holes.

Q:Question for the Manufacturer : What species of wood is ACTUALLY being used in this kit? I'm asking because several different species of wood are referred to as "cedar" & people often mix up 'Western Red Cedar' with other 'cedars'. Is the cedar you are using Thuja plicata or is it one of the other species of "cedar"? Thanks.

Answer This Question
A: The boards are tight enough together that you do not need to line. I actually lined two of mine and left two unlined to test how they hold up this first season using them.

A: No liner is included and you do not need one. Most raised beds are simply lined with newspaper.

A: It is not included. I use the carboard from the packaging and laid it on the bottom in stead of laying a landscape fabric.

A: Liner not included. Whether its necessary - that's up to you and what you are trying to do.
by|May 4, 2020
A: I would line the bottom with thick cardboard, then the whole thing with a high quality weed cloth. the cardboard on the bottom will stop weeds and the weed cloth will stop weeds from around the sides and provide drainage. Never use plastic this will cause rote in the soil because of no air flow and drainage. Take a look at whicking boxes on you tube I use those.
