A: I think it is a little thin for that. I would go 1/2" or 5/8". Just my thought.

A: I wouldn't use anything less than 1/2 inch material, especially if you're spanning 2ft rafters
by|Mar 21, 2020
A: If you'll also be walking on it then no, this is too thin and particleboard doesn't supply the strength needed to support walk on it, especially a 3/8" panel.. I would suggest you go with a 19/32 OSB panel (Oriented Strand Board). These can get heavy when trying to get into the attic. For a lighter alternative go with a 15/32 sheathing, which will run about the same coast as the 19/32 OSB and be lighter plus better strength than the particleboard, just make sure to run the grain perpendicular to the rafters. Hope this helps.

Q:Can this be cut into 12” x 12” pieces? Can this be used as a canvas for resin and acrylic paintings?

A: Yes, this can be cut.

A: You can cut this into any size and shape you desire (of course within the limitations of the size of the board). Because of the semi rough texture on the face of the board it may not be suitable for a "canvas" for painting. A better option would be an MDF panel which offers you a smooth surface.

Q:I am looking to construct 8ft tall 3d letters – is this thick enough to support that?
by|Feb 2, 2020
2 Answers
Answer This Question
A: Depends on how the letters are constructed or to what you are attaching them. If they are just free standing with no support other then the 3/8" particleboard, then this probably won't be thick enough material. If you're making them 3D utilizing other materials to give them depth beyond just this material then you may be fine, depending on how they are constructed. Unfortunately your question doesn't provide enough information to give you a definitive answer.

A: No. This board is only 3/8 of an inch. You need at least 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch.

Q:Is 3/8" particleboard available somewhere, somehow? Website indicates it exists but I cannot find it.

Q:can this be used for a store room wall

A: If it's inside and not exposed to the elements, then yes, it can be used as such as long as attached to proper framing. If you're going to frame out the wall why not use drywall and make a nicer looking and less expensive option. If aesthetics aren't an issue and you're just looking at something to close in an area then this will work. Make sure to treat and paint it to prolong the life of the wood

A: You're better to stick with the MDF. For wainscoting you want a nice smooth finish and sharp edges. particle board has a rough finish, whereas MDF is nice and smooth. Also, particle board doesn't hold nice sharp edges when cut. The edge will chip easily over time.
