A: It did the job
A: Hi Jrod, Please report any app issues with The Home Depot support. Thank you.
A: I have a 50lb bag
A: Living in northern wv. 100 miles south of pittsburgh. I used as a cover crop after garden was done in the fall. It came in full and thick. But this is a cool weather grass and an annual. It will die out in the hot summer of next year.
A: I grew it in Iowa. Lived through -17f
A: Yes, Annual Ryegrass will grow in Pennsylvania. Thanks.
A: Md not sure. In Florida, right around Thanksgiving in order to catch any potential rain over the "winter" months.
A: I seed about 2 acres every year & normally broadcast my seed around first part of April. Also try to do so just before a nice but not too hard rain shower. You should see results in about two weeks. Remember, this grass will begin to dry out and die when hot summer comes. Lots of people use rye as a starter grass and after it comes up, seed fescue over top.
A: Just remember, annual is a temporary seasonal lawn...you want perrinnial for a healthy lawn that comes back every year.
A: Hi Herbie, Annual Ryegrass is a cool season grass, which is planted in the spring or fall. However, it will die out in summer temperatures so it’s best planted in the fall. Thanks!
A: The best time to seed is when the average temperature is about 80°F, though I have seen germination when the average temperature is just above 70°F. Annaul Rye grass doesn't like temperatures above an average of 100°F or below 32°F and will die off.
A: You can put seed out in early spring, cover it with straw , that will keep it from blowing away, doing it before the rains , you dont have to waiste water and run up your water bill.it will germinate when the rains hit ,,it needs to stay moist to germinate. it should be cool at night and warm through the day, you should find out what temperature should be, ask your local homedepot store...
A: Hi Duckman, Cool season grasses should be planted when your daytime temperatures are between 60 to 74 degrees and no lower than 50 degrees at night, so your temperatures are still a little low. Also, please be aware that Annual Ryegrass will die out in the summer heat. Thanks!
A: Yes, and know that the key is to cover it with a generous mixture of soil and manure mixed and give it water often. You will have a lovely emerald green result.
A: Read bagged instructions!!
A: yes
A: This grass seed germinates and establishes best when average daily temperatures are between 60° F and 80° F.
A: Yes you can. But head only last one year if you read the front of the bag it's say temporary
A: I found a bag that I packed away in my barn over three years ago. Spread it several weeks ago, came up nicely.
A: 12 months for sure. Probably 2 years if stored in a controlled environment, like inside a residence.
A: Hi Gordon, Grass seed is good for up to two years, however, the germination rate may decline after the sell by date. While you may not get the same germination rate as a brand new seed, you should still get good coverage as long as the seed was stored in a cool, dry area. Thanks!
A: Yes, but after 5 years, you might have problems with germination. Just keep in a dry location.
A: I bought it in the winter when we were having all the rain last year, still had some come summer, the stores keep it on the shelves and the plants stock it in there warehouses, so I don't see why it wouldn't, but if you want you could go to there site and ask there, you'd get a more reliable answer..
A: The color of grass is different year to year. I save my extra seed every year and some years I have bought way to much. Some of the rye grass is darker green and some is lighter.
A: PER BAG INSTRUCTIONS
A: The Edgegard appears to be a broadcast spreader. Start with the same setting as listed for other broadcast spreaders. Then divide the number in half. This will ensure that you don't over-fertilize and burn your lawn. Do a test strip and observe how much fertilizer is being spread. If it's not enough you can increase it in half-number increments. It's better to go light than heavy. You can always make a second Pass in a week once you verify that you are not burning your lawn.
A: Hi Brad5454, Please overseed with a setting of 6.5, new/bare ground at a 9.5. Thanks!
A: #3 for areas with existing Bermuda grass. #6 or 7 for bare ground which was then protected with seed cover.
A: Depends on where you live! Plus what your intended goal is? I find it is about process - [i] if you watch the video: https://www.scotts.com/en-us/products/spreaders/scotts-turf-builder-edgeguard-dlx-broadcast-spreader they suggest 3.5, this may satisfy providing your lawn is already established. In my case where I was seeding a bear area I used a lower number on the first pass and mixed the seed with the Scotts Turf Builder, then raked it into the soil one forth inch as per the instructions of the seed. I hand watered the area an waited ten-fifteen minutes and repeated using the recommended number of 3.5 I used the higher setting, raked, and watered(lots of water). I also water in stages the areas freshly seeded, two times a day for about twenty minutes each.
A: I'm not sure about that. Local farmers use it for winter cover. You will have to mow though. It's great stuff.
A: Yes
A: Hi Avant, Pennington Seed remains dedicated to helping you grow the finest lawn possible and enjoy the benefits of generations of integrity. Our seed is not technically certified as organic. Typically organic is reserved for consumer goods that people and their pets eat, touch, or wear. Thanks!
A: Greenville SC - I buy several hundred pounds every other year to spot seed my acreage. I plant spring, fall & winter. Never had problems, except it will brown out in hot summer.
A: Hi Rick, Annual Ryegrass is a cool season grass, which means it will grow when the temperatures during the day are between 60 to 75 degrees and no lower than 50 degrees. While there is some room for the temperatures to fluctuate, winter temperatures will not be warm enough to provide sufficient germination. Thanks!
A: I put mine out in early spring, but with the weather we're having with the rain , I don't see why it wouldn't germinate, I'm in ohio
A: It depends on temperature and moisture. If you get it to germinate before it gets really cold, it will do fine. In Northern CA I've had trouble getting it established after November. I usually try to seed it just before the first decent rain in the fall. I use it in conjunction with wheat straw for erosion control on grading projects. Birds will gobble up the seed pretty quickly if it doesn't get enough water to germinate.
A: Do not plant this! This is nothing but weeds and hay. It will take years to get rid off. I ended spending hundreds of dollars and finally this year purchased grass.seed from wholesaler and it grow beautifully. Grass needs 60 degrees to germinate so winter planting is like throwing out bird seed. I hope this helps.
A: No this grass seed is ONLY good for year round warm climate
A: If your asking if the seed is treated then NO; Not to my knowledge!
A: Yes, the grass is sealed with a green looking coating, however I believe it is a starter fertilizer and a seal to help the grass seed last longer. As for staining, My plastic seed spreader gave up half way through my job, so I hand cast the balance of the field, rather than stop and find another seeder. At the end of job, I had no green from seeds on my hands.
A: Not at all. It's regular grass seed only.
A: I didn't encounter any staining.
A: No
A: Hi Josie, No this does not have a green dye. Thanks!
A: no, no green dye
A: No...when it terminates the green color is from the natural grass blades. I never heard of grass seed containing dye to make the blades green.
A: No
A: No. That’s pencoated seed.
A: Hi Guisela, Using manure as a natural fertilizer is an option, not a requirement. You most certainly can plant Annual Ryegrass without covering with manure, however, it does need to be covered by no more than ¼” of top dressing to create the best seed to soil contact. Whether you use topsoil, peat moss, compost or manure, is your preference. Thanks!
A: yes threw mine out by hand no cover where power company killed grass when spraying trees-no cover lush thick grass in under 2 weeks
A: Yes. It would be best to have your soil tested.
A: Don't BUY! It's very $$$ and I got a shadow of grass somewhere on my lawn. WASTE OF $$$$ We did everything right. Had this lawn for 22 years and before that 8 years at my 1st home. We always had beautiful lawns NOT this YEAR! OH and it has tons of weeds in the seed!!! Crab grass is now what I am dealing with!
A: Yes, but manure help fertilize the seed. Miracle Gro liquid is what I use. Manure adds height to your lawn.
