A:Â I have three in a ceiling fan fixture, and they work fine--though they have only been in service for a week. I see nothing in the description to indicate they won't, in fact it says this bulb will work in any unenclosed fixture. Knock yourself out!

Q:Do these operate well in closed fixtures?

Answer This Question
A:Â Yes. Much less heat compared to the old incandescent bulb.
by|Jul 16, 2015
A:Â Yes...no heat like a normal incandescent bulb.
by|Nov 16, 2015
A:Â They create significantly less heat than an incandescent bulb, I have them everywhere.. so I am going with yes.

A:Â They appear to work well in my enclosed fixture and the box does not give a warning not to use them. I have shopped around quite a bit and other bulbs do have warnings not to used them on enclosed fixtures right on the box.
I have checked them periodically just to be sure they are not overheating in the fixtures and have not had any concerns at this point.

A:Â I used in enclosed fixtures 10 months now and counting. No problems . The bulbs don't put off any heat but the heat diode? in the base does warm up but not even close to an incandescent bulb. My ceiling fixtures take two bulbs but I found in most I only need one. Plenty of light instantly and using only one cuts down on the heat witch is really not much.

A:Â This LED bulb gets hot, i would not recommend them in a closed fixture.
by|Jul 22, 2015

A:Â Philips seems to rate bulbs as dis/approved for 'accent lighting', rather than specifically 'enclosed fixtures'. This bulb is not rated for accent lighting according to their documentation.
An example of a Philips bulb which *is* rated for accent lighting is model # 455824 (also dimmable).

A:Â Yes, they are shaped very similar to incandescent so they should fit fine, and they don't heat up much compared to incandescent or fluorescent.
by|Aug 5, 2015
A:Â Do not use these in enclosed fixtures, you will reduce the life of the LED.
It is true LED's don't produce as much heat as an incandescent, however the LED lifespan will be significantly decreased by relatively low heat, like the heat produced from being in an enclosed fixture.
I use Philips slimstyle bulbs for all my lamps, and Cree 4flow for my enclosed fixtures.

by|Jun 23, 2015

A:Â These fit an A19, which in the US is the "Standard" socket. There are technically a lot of standards for bulb sockets. If you go into a lamp store and buy the typical end table lamp, it will have an A19 socket.
