Q:Can it be thinned more than recommended with alcohol then used as a pentrating sealer on new mortar? Inside of a reptile enclosure with some humidity but no standing water. I just want to make the mortar less permeable

      A:  I have no idea. Here’s what I can tell you. I bought it for my outdoor fountain. This was not a one step process. They give you two cans. You have to pour the paint can into the epoxy can. It starts thickening right away. As soon as I put my brush in and pulled it out it was getting thicker. By the fourth or fifth brush I was pushing it on. This product was too much work for me.

              A:  It's not about how many coats as much as it is the finished thickness when complete. The coating needs to be applied 10 mils (10 thousandths of an inch or like 3 sheets of paper thick) minimum to work correctly. It can be done in a single coat or multiple coats. Most people will apply two thin coats on the walls and one thicker 10 mil coat on the floor and walk their way out.                 A:  Yes as long as the previous coating is in good shape, Just clean it and sand it with 60-grit. A sander works fine but you should also sand by hand afterwards to leave some tooth.
