    Answer This Question

A:  QUIKRETE® Liquid Cement Colors are compatible with portland cement based thinset mortars. Obtaining the desired color will require trial-and-error experimentation.

A:  Yes - I have used Quikrete 10 oz. Liquid Cement Color in concrete mix and in mortar mix. Both have worked and met my needs. One suggestion - follow the mix ratio. It dries lighter than it looks wet, also it tends to fad so if you have the color you want when dry, seal after 30 days or it will keep fading over time

        Answer This Question

A:  Each bottle of QUIKRETE® Cement Color will color up to two 80 lb (36.2 kg) or 60 lb (27.2 kg) bags of QUIKRETE® Concrete, Mortar, or Sand (Topping) Mix. Q:When using Quikrete quick setting cement, What color would be best to match "old" concrete?
          by|Apr 11, 2022

          Answer This Question

A:  QUIKRETE® Quick-Setting Cement is formulated to match typical aged concrete in appearance, however, concrete’s color changes significantly geographically – from light tan to almost charcoal. When making repairs, getting a good color match can be difficult – we always recommend trialing the repair material in a small, inconspicuous area first and waiting 24 hours to ensure that the appearance, including color, is acceptable.

A:  Don't know that answer. I used Cement Color to match rock in a retaining wall to come as close to a "dryset" look as possible.

A:  No, this product must be added to the concrete as it is being mixed.

A:  I don't think so. We mixed it in with the concrete.

                by|Jan 3, 2022

A:  No. You cannot use it on already cured cement. It has to be mixed in with wet cement so that the wet cement will have color uniformity.

A:  I'm sure you could but it won't be the same color it will be much darker.  If you do that water it down significantly.  It starts out a orange color out of the bottle and then dries the beige color after mixed with concrete.  Definitely try it out and experiment on an inconspicuous spot first.

A:  QUIKRETE® Liquid Cement Colors are not designed to be used with sealers. These products are intended to be mixed with cement based repair products to provide a decorative finish. We recommend you contact a coatings manufacturer for their advice on pigmented systems for sealers.

A:  The wait time for sealing depends on the sealer selected. If you are using QUIKRETE® Acrylic Concrete Cure & Seal, you can seal the concrete immediately after troweling. Other sealers may take weeks or even months before they can be used. Please consult your sealer’s manufacturer for their recommendations over fresh concrete.

A:  Brushing on is unlikely to work and maybe difficult due to the texture and it not likely having any adhesive property. Mixing the color into an old school 'Portland paint' slurry, then coloring will be better. Mixing color with cement as directed is best, but- having added a charcoal color to 'Portland paint' by mixing Quickcrete Liquid Color to a thin slurry of Portland cement and water, then adding the charcoal color, then painting it on old pavers and concrete, was able to get a dark finish that's lasted for two year so far. Add color incrementally until desired color is achieved, then test- always dries lighter, so experiment.

A:  No, it has to be added to the cement mix. We purchased and added it per instructions and it did not work at all. If you want dark concrete, it would be better and cheaper to just purchase dry powder to add in during mix or do a stain after you completed the forms. This product did not work at all.

A:  I put it on pavers I bought at home depot as they absorb the liquid unlike concrete I painted it on and let the pavers set for a 2 week period before installing. So far it's staying on the pavers after a year

I used a variety of the colors sold and the color has remained even in the hot Texas sun. It's been a little over a year since we made our stepping stones.
