A: It was just scratching the surface and shooting the soil backwards.
A: That only thing that'll break up caliche is a heavy digging bar. You're basically working with dirt cement.
A: Hello, Bobt - Thank you for your question. If the caliche is soft then it should work. I would not recommend using this first on caliche that is more rock-hard. I hope this helps! Additionally, if you need further support, then a RYOBI Customer Experience Professional is here for you, Monday - Friday from 9 am to 6 pm (EST) when you call or text us at 1.800.525.2579 or through email or live chat when you visit us at https://www.ryobitools.com/support/contact. A: hold the button than depress the handle. its almost a 2 hand job. I flip the upper handle and made it easier to start and to hold the tiller.
A: Hello, Ajl71 - Thank you for your question. To start the motor: Connect the cultivator to power supply. Always secure extension cord to unit by using cord retainer. Failure to use cord retainer may result in damage to the unit and/or extension cord. Place your thumb on the lock-out button. Pull the switch trigger toward the handle. Release the lock-out button. I hope this helps! A: Well that all depends if you have a 110 outlet pre-installed or if you have a converter box to make it work from your cigarette lighter. It's been my experience that as long as you have an extension cord for the tiller and if your are only expecting to use it for a short period then it works as long as your battery will hold a charge.i do think that it's speed seems to be a bit slower and it will definitely drain the battery, but it does work in a pinch. If no other sorse like a generator is available.
A: Do not know. This is a terrific machine and it does not need batteries.
A: It's a mistake, it's is a plug in
A: No place to put the batteries... corded only.... just a mistake

A: It’s not heavy at all. It is a little aggressive when cultivating but nothing that’s out of control. I’m a male, 5’8, 200lbs, if that helps too.
A: I would guess 8 - 10lbs..tops! Seems just right for around the yard tilling. Does a nice job around my flower beds.
A: Not heavy at all.
A: The RYOBI 16 in. 13.5 Amp Corded Cultivator weighs slightly under 31 pounds. I haven't had to lift mine since I bought it because it rolls easily on its wheels. I consider it perfect for my "retirement" garden.
A: It's not heavy enough to go deeper than an inch or so in dry soil. I had to add lead weights to it to get a bite into the soil. Very light weight.
A: It is a great machine and very rugged but I think you would need something larger to clear that much area. The largest area I have cleared is about 60 square feet and it took over an hour. I have tilled a number of areas deep enough to plant small trees and shrubs. This machine chews up the very hard clay in my yard.
A: Hello, Bobw - Thank you for your interest in the 16 in. 13.5 Amp Corded Cultivator. This tool cultivates a 16 in. wide path 8 in. deep. The distance you can cultivate with this tool would depend on the length of the extension cord you use. A: Definitely not. It is only good for small beds with fairly loose soil.
A: This machine is designed for tilling and digging into dirt at 3 levels---shallow,medium and deep.I think you may be able to clear weed & grass, but cut down first by a lawn mower to a minimum level, after which you need to dampen the landscape thoroughly the night before tilling.I used this machine to till on dirt that was clear of grass & weeds and it performed excellently with that so I would think you can manage the 1500" ft square yard OK given you follow those preliminary steps I already stated.
