A: I only found up to 400 grit in home depot.
A: Yes you can get different grits.
A: Hi, RaulRM. Thank you for your interest in the RYOBI ONE+ 18V Cordless 5 in. Random Orbit Sander. Yes! You can use many different grits as long as the sanding disc is a hook and loop style disc. A: If your drill is part of the One+ 18v family, then yes, even the "Old Blues" will work, though I would HIGHLY recommend you update to current One+ or One+HP batteries. The Lithium chemistry is FAR superior for life and power and quick charging.
A: Ya eh doctAir
A: Hi, Arlene. Thank you for your interest in the RYOBI ONE+ 18V Cordless 5 in. Random Orbit Sander. This would depend on how many volts the battery and charger is. It would also depend on how old the battery and charger actually is. A: I suppose with some duck tape anything is possible. The exhaust on this device has a smaller opening than most shop vacs that I have seen. There are, however, shop vac adaptors for this purpose. You can find one called "Rockler Dust Port Adapter, 1-1/4'' Vacuum Wand to 2-1/4'' Port"
A: You'll need the RYOBI ONE+ 18V Corner Cat Dust Adaptor Model #A32VCDT https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-ONE-18V-Corner-Cat-Dust-Adaptor-A32VCDT/206703974
A: Yes it works great to
A: Hi, Heather. Thank you for your interest in the RYOBI ONE+ 18V Cordless 5 in. Random Orbit Sander. Yes! We do not make an adapter for that but there are after market ones that should work. A: I actually rated this product five stars years ago. I still own the same sander 5 years later and it woks great. I use it from dry wall work to wood work to whatever I need it for it has got the job done.
A: Jerry, thank you for your interest in the RYOBI ONE+ 18V Cordless 5 in. Random Orbit Sander. Yes this could be used for a project like that. It is likely you could go deeper than the clear coat though. Thank you for asking, If you have further questions and would like to speak with a RYOBI Customer Experience Professional, please call, 1-800-525-2579 M-F from 9am-6pm EST. Hope this helps! - Vini
A: Jerry, I wouldn't try to do the whole car unless you have a few batteries handy, but otherwise it will do as well as any RO sander, air powered or plug in. Clear coat is very soft, so if you don't intend to repaint the base coat, you'll have to be VERY careful...I've never been able to get away with that! The RO pattern is very close to my air powered sander, though the RPMs are probably 20% lower, so this would take longer but still reasonable for a panel or a hood. If you need to do the whole car (and you said "remove"...not "scuff") I'd go for the air powered unless time is not an issue and you have 3-4 batteries ready so you can keep them charging as you go.
A: NO as the unit is orbital and will ruin the paint itself. The auto shop uses only one directional sander and specific paper to remove just the clear coat.
A: I can't think of any reason why not as long as you use the correct grit sandpaper.
A: Dosent spin as good as the Dewalt and sounds like the inside is going to fall out
A: Sounds like yours might be broken. Mine most certainly does spin or rotates around. You can see it if you turn it on and hold it upside down and look at the pad.
A: Design differences I suppose. It seems to give a smooth finish though.
A: Yes, it does.
A: Tim, thank you for your interest in the RYOBI 18-Volt ONE+ Cordless 5 in. Random Orbit Sander. This should be spinning. You should make an exchange for a product that is working correctly. If you are outside of your exchange window you can take the product to a service center. You can locate the service center nearest to you on our website. A: I don't think you can use it for wet sanding because the motor is not sealed.
A: I haven't tried what you are asking. There are air slots on the sander where I think water could enter causing a short to stop running. Your try it and let me know.
A: Dirtrack, thank you for your interest in the RYOBI 18-Volt ONE+ Cordless 5 in. Random Orbit Sander. I am sorry no. You should not use this sander with water in any way. Thank you for asking, If you have further questions and would like to speak with a RYOBI Customer Experience Professional, please call, 1-800-525-2579 M-F from 9am-6pm EST. Hope this helps! - Vini
A: you can use it for almost anything but with water and wet paper it is not advisable.
A: Well, consider that this is NOT a waterproof tool, and it IS an electrical tool, albeit it is only 18 volts DC, BUT, electricity and water do not mix very well. I understand what the question is, and also understand that you aren't talking about working under a water hose flow of water, so, unofficially and IMHO, I believe that you could use it for that purpose, if you were extremely careful not to get any water into the electrical part. I use water when applying my wax when power waxing the car; I'm very careful (spray bottle) and haven't been electrocuted yet. Actually, I commend you for thinking of this. I am tired of doing wet sanding with an air powered sander and lugging the hose around.
A: Jake, thank you for your interest in the RYOBI 18-Volt ONE+ Cordless 5 in. Random Orbit Sander. You are likely to find that both sanders will be necessary for a project like refinishing stairs. Thank you for asking, If you have further questions and would like to speak with a RYOBI Customer Experience Professional, please call, 1-800-525-2579 M-F from 9am-6pm EST. Hope this helps! - Vini
A: Corner cat. It can get in corners
A: I would not recommend this for that job as there is no speed adjustment and you run the risk of damaging the work. This is a great sander but I’ve found that it can be very damaging in some settings. I’ve used it for wood drywall etc and I used it on my stairs and paid the price.
A: I'd use both. This one for the large surface of the tread and the corner cat for the l&r corners of the treads.
A: the sander will work great except for the corners and then I would use a sander made to do corners.
A: You might want both, this for large area, and the corner cat for the corners. Unless you only want to own one sander, then get the corner cat.
A: With the round pad, you'll never reach into the corners, but with the corner cat, the pad is smaller, so the job will likely take a bit longer. I'd buy both. Since you're doing this job, you can justify the purchase of both, and, get a few more batteries while you're at it. You'll use both of these sanders again, so it will be $ well spent. Just remember how much $ you saved and that will make the purchase go easier.
A: The corner cat. you wouldn't be able to get into the corners with the random orbital sander.
A: Jake, You nailed it...the corners will be a problem with this round pad, so the answer is probably "both." Use this for the main areas and hit the corners with the specialty sander. Just be sure to match grits as you go and avoid the temptation to press too firmly on the corner sander.
A: You probably could but then the vacuum feature wouldn’t work. It has holes so it can vacuum up the sand paper.
A: Yes
A: Lou1092, thank you for your interest in the RYOBI -Volt ONE+ Cordless 5 in. Random Orbit Sander. You would not want to use adhesive sand paper on this sander. The hook and loop pas is your only option. Thank you for asking, If you have further questions and would like to speak with a RYOBI Customer Experience Professional, please call, 1-800-525-2579 M-F from 9am-6pm EST. Hope this helps! - Vini
A: Why? Just use the hook and loop and paper and do it the right way instead of trying to modify it to adhesive back, you'll be happy you did and can get started on your projects. The time you take modifying the sand paper to the pad is not worth the effort, if you're thinking of doing the modification to save a few cents.
A: No, you cannot directly use adhesive backed sandpaper on this sander. You could try to peel off the layer that has the hooks on it but you would probably damage the foam pad under it. You might be able to glue a hook and loop sanding disk to a flexible plastic disk and attach it to the sander, then apply the adhesive sanding disks on the plastic disk. Or, you could just use the hook and loop sanding disks. They work just fine for me,
A: Yes but you have to be careful to not over sand using this as there is no speed control.
A: This would work but may damage the paper. This sander can be aggressive. Drywall spackle removes quickly. There would also be lots of dust. Probably better options to power sanding
A: I us mine for all types of project, works very well but if you use any battery or electrical sander on drywall you have to be very careful not to damage the paper face of the drywall
A: Yes
A: Nnie, thank you for your interest in the RYOBI 18-Volt ONE+ Cordless 5 in. Random Orbit Sander . This would work for that sort of project but it would not be ideal as it would be very easy to damage both the spackle and the surrounding drywall.
