Q:I assume the "Safety Tip" can be removed for plunge cutting if so desired?

A: I would definitely think 3, no, 4 times before purchasing this boat anchor. Mine worked exactly twice and has never started since. Complete junk and the cost of repair is easily the cost of the unit itself. Better to burn the trees and deny climate change.
Yes, the “safety” tip is removable.
Maybe thats a bonus.
I think not.
by|Feb 22, 2020
A: Yes. Just make sure you have proper safety equipment and that you medical insurance is up to date. ;-)
by|Feb 22, 2020
A: Hi Chris, That is correct. There is a section in the manual that offer instructions for removing the tip for plunge cuts. Thanks for asking. Greg
by|Feb 19, 2020
A: Yes. I removed the Safety Tip and the saw works fine. Just be sure to hold on tight so the saw cannot kick back and hit you when cutting.
by|Aug 14, 2020
A: Yes the tip can be removed but I am not sure if this has enough power to plunge cut large hard wood. I use mine often on limbing , medium trees mostly nothing over one foot thick but it does good but I did put an 18" bar and chain on mine.

A: Its has been preowned fixed or repaired and sold at a lower price
by|Jun 21, 2019
A: It means it was purchased and returned by another customer. They have to send it back to RYOBI, and then RYOBI checks everything out and fixes anything that may have caused the return. It is then tested, cleaned and made available to purchase for half the price!

A: This was a returned item that could not be resold as new. The manufacturer verifies proper functioning and sells it as "reconditioned" for a discounted price.

A: A reconditioned chainsaw is a chainsaw that has either had an engine rebuilt or other parts replaced. They are cheaper due to being used and may come ready to run. Or you could get one like mine that doesn’t run and has to be taken into a ryobi maintenance center or a Home Depot that has tool rental and repair, to get it repaired under warranty.

A: A reconditioned chainsaw is one that the engine has been rebuilt on or has had new parts installed to make it run again.
by|Jun 25, 2019
A: like new
by|Jul 2, 2019
A: Mine was purchased and used, the. Returned to the store, probably with a bent or jammed bar, and homedepot replaced the bar and chain, and resold.
by|Jul 3, 2019
A: I think it varies by item. In the case of mine, the bar was replaced. Instead of a ryobi bar, I have a homelite bar. It doesn't affect the chainsaws functionality in any way that I can see.

A: It can handle 14in diameter trunk no problem, the bigger stuff can be done if you get a little creative.

Q:How does this chainsaw compare to a 30cc 2 cycle gas chainsaw?
I'm looking at several rebuild Stihl MS170 30cc 14 inch chainsaws with new bars and chains.
Professionally rebuilt to original or better specification and tested - new piston, rings, new or re-honed cylinder, tight and smooth or new crank bearings and many new parts.
Everything is working - Oiler works. Brake works. Recoil works. Ignition works. 160+ PSI compression. Crankcase holds pressure and vacuum with no leak (10+ psi and holding). Starts in one or two pulls. Full power just like a new saw but a fraction of the price!
I need to clear some land of brush with heavy branches 1-3 inches. Plus I'm looking for a saw to carry while off-road to remove fallen trees.
I've been using manual saws and axes and would like to give a chainsaw a try but am uncertain about having enough cc and horse power.

A: My chainsaw came with just the engine... no chain and chain bar. I was told by customer service that these were 'accessories' and not included with reconditioned models. It is more expensive to buy the missing parts than to buy a brand new one in the box with these much needed 'accessories.' Buy New!!
by|Apr 23, 2019
A: You likely won't notice a difference in power .
by|Apr 3, 2019
A: I bought ryobi 16 rebuild and it works excellent, I like it
by|Apr 6, 2019
A: Hi homedeopotcustomer, This saw has a larger motor and is also tested and any parts that are below par are changed. This saw should act and operate the same as a new saw. You may see some blemishes or small scratches on the saw is a reconditioned model but it will not effect the operation of the saw. Thanks for asking. Greg
by|Apr 2, 2019
A: Doubt if you could tell a difference well the Stihl will likely prove a better saw but with all the checking you checked on the Stihl you don't sound like a person that needs advice in this area.

A: Hi, Ew- The chainsaw comes requiring very little assembly. You'll just need to attach the bar/chain as seen starting on page 27 of the manual (link below). A case is not included. We hope this helps!
