Answer This Question

A:  I used this on a steel exterior door, but in fairness I used it to route the hinges and the edges have a wood insert just for that purpose.

A:  NO!!! if you hit metal spinning that fast you better have good eye protection on....

A:  No these bits are for wood.

A:  Only the clad doors that have wood where the hinge attaches. If you hit the metal the bit will shatter.

A:  NO ! and do not attempt

A:  No, these are for wood only.

A:  I would say the answer to that is how fast (rpm's) is your router and do you care if they have to be replaced after a few uses. They are simple, two blade bits that cut very well. They are not plunge router bits per se but with care you could do that although for safety sake I would not recommend it.

A:  I would think not. That's a question for Ryobi.

A:  Hi, PowPow. We wouldn't suggest this bit set. This set is for wood only and would not be suitable for metal.

A:  These have carbide bits which I assume can be sharpened.

A:  Depends on what you are doing with them. A slight honing of the flat face is fine, but depending on your precision requirements, you might be better off buying new as these are cheap enough to replace vs. how much it would cost to have them sharpened. http://www.rockler.com/how-to/sharpening-router-bits/

              A:  Would not recommend.

A:  I would think you could sharpen the bits but the cutting surfaces are very small, and you'd have to be really good with a sharpener. Bear in mind that if you remove material from a 1/2" bit, it's going to be close, but not exactly 1/2".
