A: Technically you could, but not really. You would spend hours and not get good results. Rent a gas powered dethatcher or buy an electric one. I recommend buying an electric one.

A: It might, but it is more of a grading an moving lose soil device. It has aluminum teeth that I think would bend or break. I think a steel metal rake would do better.

A: Yes, it's a very good quality tool. Works great for dethatching your yard and leveling it.

Q:I need a wide rake to drag behind a lawn tractor to rake the tree limbs into a single pile to pick up prior to cutting the grass. Do you think this will do the job on less than a half-acre lawn? Anyone know of one wider than this 3 footer? I have back issues and can't bend over and over and over to pick them up from a weeping willow, poplar and a couple other trees. Thanks for your help.

A: This would do the job but the teeth might bend on you if your trying to pull up and weeds.

A: I don't think this would work well for that. The tines will load up quickly and not pick up many sticks. You probably need something with 10-20" long tines, more designed for your purpose

A: I don't think this would work well for that. Maybe hire a local kid. This would just rip up your land and all the tines would bend
by|Mar 28, 2021
A: Yes it will because is wider than most

A: Hi NVR4get
I would not purchase this rake with what you described its great to level out land like top soil and spread around mulch its not to be used on a finished lawn. Hope that helps and answers your question

Q:Would this work for leveling uneven spots in an established lawn? In other words, I have bumpy areas I would like to even out but am not sure this would do the trick to level the soil in an existing lawn.

A: Yes, it worked really well. Very sturdy and dependable.
by|Feb 7, 2023
A: No, I think it would just dig into the lawn unless that is what you want. You can do it if you have grass that spreads by rhizomes or you could reseed.
I hope my answer is understandable because I don't exactly know what type of grass you have and what is the make up of the soil.
I am a landscaper and when I come across a bumpy lawn I just add a little bit of sand like quarter of an inch every month. Over time it gets into the low spots and levels the lawn.
If you got lots of bumps and they are due to soil not thatch as you said existing soil then I would consider cutting your lawn to about soil level, smooth soil however you like and reseed or let grow again depending on the grass type

A: It depends on how hard the ground is. We need to rent a rototiller to loosen the dirt first. Then we were able to move our soil/clay around with the rake. The prongs of the rake were nice and solid, though, compared to a leaf rake.

A: You would have to fill in the low spots with more dirt, or depending how big the bumps are, turn over the dirt with a shovel or a roto-tiller.

A: Not sure what your gathering but I've used it to clean up lots of acorns
by|Jul 20, 2020
A: Not much of a rake for leaves but does great if your gathering small rocks while smoothing a yard for planting grass or sod.
by|Jul 16, 2021
A: The tines are too short and stiff for leaves.

A: I use the time side for spreading the top soil and then the flat opposite to level.

A: Thats not as simple to answer as it might appear. I have been using LS Rakes for a long time now. Basically you have a smooth straight side for leveling and pulling some dirt where you need it. It's definitely the smoothing side. The other side is to pull an amount of dirt where you need it and you will use the other side to smooth it. The teethed side also brings rocks, chunks, and debris with it. Sometimes you can break up the chunks of dirt, but have to toss the rocks and debris if you are prepping for a lawn or just want to remove rocks & debris.
Really both sides will spread soil, one more than the other, and the straight side for smoothing. I don't call it leveling but it is really smoothing soil. Perfectly leveling soil takes a lot of smoothing.

Q:Can the head of this rake be separated from the handle or is it semi-permanently attached? It looks like hex head bolts in the pics online but I don't see a pic of the opposite side. Thank you.

A: It probably can come off in some particular way, I think I remember seeing a nut near some arms from the head of the rake outside ends come up and attach to the handle.

A: No. I think its more for smoothing out top soil and removing small rocks. That is what I used it for

A: I wrote down several things and deleted them. This really is not intended to be a rake for what you want it to do. It is just not heavy duty. It is made of aluminum.
It is made to smooth and level unpacked soils, small gravel, mulch, or sand, an inch or two at a time.
You could try it, maybe it would work, but you have better choices for removing sweet gum balls.
