Q:If the product is 20x stronger, Do I have to use a top coat with rustoleum rocksolid?
by|Oct 4, 2022
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for reaching out, Lynden! A clear top coat is not required when applying our RockSolid Garage Floor Kits, however, a clear top coat such as our RockSolid Clear Textured Top Coat will provide additional durability, scratch resistance, and anti-slip properties. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

Q:What if I have expansion cracks in my garage floor. It was poured in four slabs. Do I have to fill them

    Answer This Question

A:  We are here to help! To prevent cracks in the finish, we do not recommend applying Rust-Oleum RockSolid Garage Floor Coating to the expansion joints. If needing to repair cracks in the slabs, we recommend using Rust-Oleum Concrete Patch and Repair. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-24-oz-Concrete-Patch-and-Repair-Kit-301012/206495775 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

      Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help, Matt! The Rust-Oleum RockSolid Clear Garage Floor Kit is not recommended over the Rust-Oleum Concrete & Recoat Primer. We recommend that you use a pigmented top coat, over the primer, to ensure a successful application. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1

        Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help Vani. Rust-Oleum RockSolid Polycuramine Garage Floor Coating can be applied to a previously coated concrete floor, provided the coating is a sound surface. First, remove any loose or peeling paint with a wire brush or sandpaper, then wash the floor with a good cleaner degreaser to remove any dirt and grime, as well as all grease and oil stains, rinse and allow to dry. Next, apply Rust-Oleum Concrete & Garage Recoat Primer. Allow the primer to dry at least 6 hours, but not more than 48 hours, to ensure proper adhesion of the top coat. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-1-gal-Concrete-and-Garage-Interior-Exterior-Recoat-Primer-338806/308295564 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

            Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help Taylor. Rust-Oleum RockSolid Clear Polycuramine Floor Coating can be applied to a bare concrete floor. Before applying, test the concrete to determine if it is sealed or if moisture is present in the concrete, the instructions include in the kit cover this process in detail. Wash the floor with a good cleaner degreaser to remove any dirt and grime, as well as all grease and oil stains. Next, etch the floor with a product such as Rust-Oleum Concrete Etch. After the concrete is completely dry, RockSolid Clear can be applied. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-EpoxyShield-16-oz-Concrete-Etch-6-Pack-238475/203424553

              Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for reaching out, George. If wanting to use a different product over Rust-Oleum RockSolid Garage Floor Coatings, you will want to ensure that the coating can be used over a 2-part epoxy and is suitable for foot or vehicle traffic, depending on your application. This product will discolor when exposed to UV rays. We recommend reaching out to the other coating manufacture for details about the product being used over interior-grade coatings. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

A:  We appreciate your interest, George. Rust-Oleum RockSolid Garage Floor Coatings are intended for use on interior surfaces only. Q:I want to paint my garage with Rock Solid in two different time (about a week apart). If I want to add the clear coat, can I use half bag first and another half for a week later?

                    Answer This Question

A:  No, this is not recommended. The epoxy on the first coat will dry and harden after that first week, and you'll be able to see where the second coat was applied and have a dividing line between the two coats. Ideally the second bag needs to be mixed and applied right after you've finished the first bag to get one seamless coat. This stuff starts getting pretty sticky in only an hour after it's been mixed together. Hope that helps.

A:  Happy to clear things up! Since Rust-Oleum RockSolid Garage Floor Coatings are 2-part epoxy coatings, they do have a limited pot life once mixed together. While RockSolid floor coatings can be recoated within a week with no issue, a second pouch will need to be used for the second application. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3
