Q:The package note states: Gasket will not have room to compress if top of flange is 1/4" or more above finished floor. The website has a video in which it is stated (at 0:30 of 2:57) that the gasket can be used with flange height at 3/8" above finished floor or 38" below finished floor. They can't both be right, so what is the truth?

Answer This Question

A:  absolutely true! Don't waste your time if it's flange is more than 1/8" above the finished floor.

by|Dec 6, 2019

A:  They are indeed both right. The gasket has a 3/4" range in which it will seal. If you are more than 3/8 under the finished floor they can be stacked, same as wax ring, only better.

A:  I installed mine with a flange that is 1/4" above the floor and it sealed fine.

        by|Nov 8, 2023

A:  That sounds about right to me. It’s a big foam sponge so it will compress if the flange is higher than the floor and expand if it’s below the floor. Mine failed after 2 years.

            Answer This Question

A:  This is NOT better than wax. Wax free is NOT the way to go. I've tried multiple wax free products, including this one, and I've had leaks and water damage from each installation. It may last a couple of years, depending on the toilet, (regular vs. jet flush) but eventually they WILL LEAK. This is why on most forums, professional plumbers will NOT recommend ever using a wax free seal and will always recommend using a wax ring. Whether you use one wax ring or two will depend on how level your flange sits on your floor but whatever you do, if you are contemplating trying out a new toilet seal, do yourself a favor and go with a good old fashion, inexpensive, wax ring. You'll be set for the next decade or two. Hope this helps someone out there. Good luck!

A:  I assume you mean better than a wax seal? If so, I think so: 1. is easier to install correctly. just flip the extension down and place over the flange bolts, then set toilet in place. 2. compresses without deforming so should handle any toilet movement better.

A:  You should have no trouble using this on your old 5 inch system. Since the bolts that hold the toilet are still the same dimensions it should work just fine. And the bast part is you don't need to worry about ho thick of a wax ring to get since it conforms to the toilet perfectly. I hope this help you out, And Good Luck. Dwayne

A:  4" inside diameter of the actual PVC or Cast Iron Pipe. The closet flange measures more than this, as the pipe fits into this flange and the 4" pipe measures more than that on its outside. I've never encountered a 5" pipe used for a toilet in over 40 years of experience.

A:  Yes, if the depth of the flange below the floor is at about 3/8 of an inch or more it is a good idea to stack two wax-less seals together. You can always take one out or tighten it slightly more if you need to, but if you need to add one later it could have created a leak in the meantime.

A:  You don't want to go too high with them as that would cause other problems such as wobble. I have had the waxless ring on for three months now with no problem. If you're flange is level to the flooring and you put two gaskets on you will be putting more pressure on the flange bolts and if you don't tighten them down correctly, the toilet could crack. Two gaskets are used when the flange is below the floor. Good luck.

A:  It may be a little thick. My flange was maybe a 1/2 inch below the floor surface and the toilet took some pressure to get it down to the floor to tighten the hold downs. The foam is a little dense and takes more pressure to compress than say foam cushions in your furniture.

You can use the cleaning chemicals you need to use and you won't have to worry about a leak and water damage THAT WILL transpire when you install a waxless seal.
