                      Answer This Question

A:  When using Scotts Turf Builder Winterguard Fall Lawn Food in a Scotts Elite Broadcast Spreader you would use a setting of 2.75.

                      by|Sep 22, 2023

A:  I know from my recent experience that my Scotts Elite did not apply the correct amount when set at the bag's recommended 2.75 (2-3/4) setting. For me the 2.75 setting applied at roughly half the desired rate.

Q:The bags says it "builds strong deep roots" however, Scott's response to a previous question states this does not contain phosphorus, essential for root development. So is the bag lying? Is this all just a marketing gimmick?

                          Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your interest in our products. Potassium benefits your lawn by supporting root development; this will help strengthen your lawn by firmly rooting grass into the soil to create a route of nutrient uptake to ensure overall health. This aids in winter survival, as well as helping your lawn look great in spring. Nitrogen stimulates shoot growth, which in turn stimulates root growth. Phosphorus is most important to grass when it is initially germinating for root development; once the grass is established the need for phosphorus greatly declines. There has been a growing concern regarding phosphorus pollution in lakes and streams which has led some communities to enact regulations on the use of phosphorus in lawn fertilizers. For this reason, we have removed phosphorus from all of our lawn fertilizers except our Starter Food products and Step 1 for Seeding.
