Q:Can the CCQ be used with a 6x6 post and triple 2x6 that will meet another triple 2x6 on the post? I have a very long span that requires me to join beams. Any other hardware I should use on the ends?

A:  Hello Zelda, this is Stacy with Simpson Strong-Tie. It sounds like you have a splice condition or maybe you need an ECCLQ. ECCLQ can be used at the end to join two beams together that are perpendicular to each other and sitting on a post. If you wish to discuss this further please call us at (800) 999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

A:  The CCQ4.62-5.50SDS is sized for a triple 2x beam (4 1/2" combined); minimum of 7" depth. Thank you!

          by|Apr 17, 2020

A:  You use three 2x6s, or 2x8s, or 2x10s, or 2x12s -- glued and screwed together to make a glulam beam. The actual size of the triple 2x glulam will be 4.5 inches wide (1.5" width x each of the three 2x boards). If you're going to use a solid beam, that'll require a different column cap that accomodates the larger size.

                Answer This Question

A:  The CCQ4.62-5.50SDS has the Simpson Strong-Tie® gray paint finish which provides a low level of corrosion resistance. It can be used with some treated woods in dry service (typically interior). It is also available with the HDG (hot-dip galvanized; CCQ4.62-5.50HDG) finish which provides a medium level of corrosion protection and can be used with treated wood in many exterior applications (some exterior applications, treated woods, etc. may require stainless steel). Please visit our website for further corrosion information and our "Guidelines for Selecting the Proper Materials and Coatings" page. Thank you!
