Q:I asked a question about your video where you can see a wooden post mounted in The post base which is itself placed on a horizontal wooden beam. You informed me that it is not mounted in the horizontal wooden beam. However you didn?t answer my question.

Q:I plan to put in a 42" deep 10" concrete footing to support an 8' tall 4x4 to secure one end of a dog run with the cable under some tension. Is this bracket suitable for the job?

A: BMB12, This is McKenzie from Simpson Strongtie. The E-Z Base should not be used for fences in excess of 4' in height or that are unprotected from wind forces. These products are not rated for uplift loads and should not be used with posts for overhead structures or any other structure that requires resistance to wind uplift loads.
Thanks.

Answer This Question
A: Hi ThisPesonWantsToKnow, this is McKenzie from Simpson Strong-Tie. The E-Z Base is designed for a nominal 4x4 post that would be 3.5" x 3.5" attaching to existing concrete. In terms of if this base would be sufficient for your application we would recommend the Building Design Professional or Engineer of Record evaluate the application and if the E-Z Base would be the best fit for your application. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

Q:How close to the edge of a concrete slab can I mount these?
by|Jul 14, 2023

Answer This Question
A: Hi Gina, this is Colin from Simpson Strong-Tie. It will depend on the anchorage that is used to secure the base to the concrete slab. Our 1/2" diameter mechanically galvanized Titen Heavy Duty Screw Anchors (THDMG) require a minimum 1 3/4" edge distance. That would be the same if using a 1/2" diameter threaded rod and our anchoring epoxy adhesive (SET-3G and SET-XP). If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

Answer This Question
A: Hello Chichi, the E-Z Base™ E-Z Post Base is a non-structural post base which is not structurally load rated and not intended to be used for post greater than 4' in height. For a Gazeebo I would recommend the MPBZ Moment Post Base. If you have any other questions please call Simpson customer support at 800-999-5099. -Stacy

Q:I'm adding 2' on top of a concrete wall built with FoxBlocks. I believe the conc core is 6". Is this the best post base for this application? There will be only 2" from the anchor to the edge of the concrete. OK? What would be the best anchor?

A: Hello Brad, this is Stacy with Simpson Strong-Tie. The E-Z products are meant for reinforcing fence posts are not load rated. We cannot say or guarantee that this would be the best product for your application. If you were to use the base I would consider using THD heavy duty screw anchors because have a minimum edge distance of 1 3/4". If you wish to discuss this further please call us at (800) 999-5099. We look forward to speaking with you.
