A: No, you should use whatever wiring you already have installed. Generally no new thermostat wiring is needed for a new wi fi thermostat. Unless none exists.

A: its copper. so its not for underwater. Its thermostat wire. I used it for doorbell. I am sure it will be fine in a damp crawlspace just do not staple gun it through it like my contractor did because you will never find out where it is broken. Use proper staples or zip ties.
