Answer This Question
A: Isolates the tile from the structure and prevents/minimizes cracking. There are channels to snap the warm wire into for a consistent even distribution and no need for self leveler, just fill in with thins and start tiling once the wired is snapped in

A: KC, thanks for reaching out! WarmWire® HeatMatrix® uncoupling membranes are waterproof underlay pads that provide a fast, easy method of installing WarmWire heating cables for an electric floor heating system under any type of tiles. Protects tile investment by minimizing stress caused by lateral, multi-directional movement within the substrate, which is a common cause of cracked tiles.

A: Thank you for reaching out! We would recommend 2 cables instead of 3 for this sqft (140 and 160). Also would recommend upgrading to the 240V if needing this much space heated.

Q:Is there any way to estimate electrical usage based on cable length or square footage of floor space heated? I know there are a number of variables involved in estimating the electric usage such as temp setting, ambient room temp, type of sub-floor, continuous or occasional usage. Just looking for some way to judge how much this will cost to operate.

Q:What is the diameter of the warm wire? I am hoping to retrofit underfloor heating in an existing floor in specific areas, by removing those areas of flooring. My thought is that I could cut a groove into the cement board already in place, so I could sink the wire in. That way I would maintain floor height with the flooring that is not being removed.
Can this be done?

Answer This Question
A: Hi John,
The cable is a 1/8” thick but must be embedded in a ¼” to a ½” of mortar thin-set or self-leveler. Cutting groves into backer board would not be an approved method for installation.
