Q:How thick do I need to spray to Achieve R49 rating
by|Jan 6, 2022
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP Touch 'n Foam and similar low pressure closed cell spray polyurethane foams are only code approved for a maximum application thickness of 2", accordingly, an R49 rated application would not be possible to achieve with the use of this product alone. To achieve an R49 rating, 2" of DAP Touch 'n Foam low pressure foam would be applied, allowed to cure and then supplemented with batt/loose blown/board insulation to achieve the final desired R Value. Alternately, professionally applied high pressure spray polyurethane foam could be used. Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your inquiry and for your interest in the DAP Touch ‘n Foam products. As indicated in the product usage instructions (as well as online video resources), under Section 3: Shutdown and Storage between Uses: Partially used foam kits can be reused within 30 days of the initial application by adhering to these instructions: 1. Close the cylinder valves by turning clockwise. 2. Do not drain chemical from the hoses. 3. Push the trigger safety into the locked position. 4. Remove the used nozzle, but DO NOT DISCARD. 5. Wipe the applicator barrel with a clean cloth, making sure the chemical exits are clean. Do not use solvent. 6. Apply more lubricant to the O-ring on the applicator barrel. 7. Re-attach the used nozzle, which will prevent air and moisture from entering the hoses. 8. After 7 days of non-use, remove the used nozzle, dispense a small amount of liquid, then wipe clean and re-seal with the used nozzle. 9. Store partially used products at room temperature (60°– 90°F / 16°– 32°C) in a dry area. Do not expose to open flame or temperatures above 120°F (49°C). 10. Products must be re-warmed to 70°– 90°F (21°– 32°C) before re-use. Failure to strictly adhere to these instructions will result in reusability issues. Q:How does this product do when sprayed over head coating a ceiling? Will it immediately bond to the surface or will it fall before it sets up?

          Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your inquiry and for your interest in the DAP Touch ‘n Foam products. The use of spray foams in overhead applications can be challenging. Please be sure to use proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and to tarp/protect the work area (in the event that foam drips from the application site). Be sure to conduct a test application prior to proceeding, to ensure that your application technique is producing the desired results. When applying overhead, we recommend spraying at a 45-degree angle to the plane of the work surface (not directly overhead). It is also recommended to apply multiple thin layers, rather than one large application, this minimizes waste and facilitates a complete fill and full cure. Be sure to verify compliance with your applicable local codes before proceeding. Should you wish to discuss your intended project or have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

Q:Hello, I have a metal pole barn building. Can I use this to spray directly onto the metal siding and roofing 'from the inside' to fill the open cavities between joists and studs and then trim flush before putting wall board up?

                Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your inquiry and for your interest in the DAP Touch ‘n Foam products. In theory, the project (use case) that you propose is possible, however, please be sure measure/monitor your substrate surface temperature, as it is very common for uninsulated metal surfaces to be dramatically hotter/colder than the air temperature in the application area. Surface temperatures should be measured with a non-contact IR/laser thermometer to ensure that you apply the foam within recommended temperature range. It is recommended to apply multiple thin layers, rather than one large application, this minimizes waste and facilitates a complete fill and full cure. In order to provide and air seal and a vapor barrier performance, a 2" thick application (maximum) of Touch ‘n Foam Professional 2-Component Spray Foam will be required. Be sure to verify compliance with your applicable local codes before proceeding. Should you wish to discuss your intended project or have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

A:  Thank you for your inquiry and for your interest in the DAP Touch ‘n Foam products. We do not recommend the use of our Touch ‘n Foam Pro System two-component foam products (or any other product) in closed cavity/void filling (injection) applications, as the expansion force of the foam may result in damage to the assembly. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.
