A: For some reason, they are described relative to how much "compacted soil" they hold. So, if you start with 5 gallons of potting soil, by the time you put it in the pot and lightly compact it, the "5 gallons" will fit in this 3.6 gallon pot. If you need a 5 gallon pot, I suggest the much more durable, and cheaper, Homer orange buckets.

A: I also considered this piece of garbage because I need a true 5-gallon pot. Turns out it's a "#5" pot; #5's commonly called "5 gallon", but that's just a convention and it doesn't necessarily mean they will really hold 5 gallons.
I gave this a one-star review because the "5-gallon" designation is misleading.

A: When you see "gallons" in reference to pots/planters, it's actually "trade gallons".

A: I don't think it is 5 gal either. I bought because it is #2 recyclable.

A: Gotta say Home Depot, the spec differences on this product make no sense, and makes it impossible for anybody to buy this. Not only the 5 gal. or 3.6 gal spec that is contradictory, but one spec says it is 12" high, and the other says 29.5" Are you serious? Are you relying on your customers to correct you and do your work for you? If so, that's pretty bad business, and just sad because this is one of many useless and incorrect specs I've come across on your site, forcing me to go elsewhere to make my purchases. For your own sake fix this.
