If you are installing the Main Rail carpet, which is a 26-ounce level loop carpet, it is recommended that you use a minimum density of eight (8) pounds per cubic foot. The thickness should be no less than ¼ inch and no more than ⅜ inch. On the other hand, if you are installing the padding in a commercial setting, you should consider using a flat rubber or urethane foam padding that does not exceed 3/8 inch in thickness and has a minimum density of 16 pounds. A 1/4-inch pad is more desirable if it meets the density requirement. Felted underlays - synthetic fiber cushion, hair and jute underlays should be at least 28 oz.
