Q:What type of adhesive do you recommend for repairs?

Answer This Question

A:  Hello Kellogg - thank you for the inquiry. We would suggest or recommend using a construction type adhesive such as Loctite Power Grab or something similar. If the plank can be removed and replaced with a new one, that would be the first option. Hope this helps answer your question. Thank You -

Q:I?m putting a second layer of this on top of the first layer because my elderly dog had a few accidents, it went through the tiny spaces, ruined the adhesive & damaged my subfloor. Is there something I can use to waterproof before doing the second layer?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello CWolfe - thank you for your inquiry. We wouldn't recommend installing another layer of the TrafficMaster vinyl peel & stick planks on top of the first. By doing so, the issues will still remain underneath the newly added layer. We would recommend pulling the entire first layer up, fixing / correcting your subfloor damage, then reinstalling a new layer of vinyl planks. We are not aware of a waterproofing product that can be applied to the top layer of a peel & stick plank flooring system. Fluids / water will find a way to the subfloor if not immediately cleaned up. Vinyl sheet flooring (1 piece) would probably be better suited for your needs. That way there are no seams on the floor - only at the edges around the perimeter near your floor moldings. Hope this helps answer your questions. Thank You -

Q:What is a good vinyl bonding primer for plywood subfloors and when you say vapor barrier do you mean on top of ground under the house? House has crawlspace in Florida.

      Answer This Question

A:  Hello Richard - thank you for your inquiry. As far as the vinyl bonding primer, a product such as the Henry 336 would be sufficient. It's highly recommended when installing vinyl peel & stick tiles / planks. It's also recommended to use a 100 lb. roller (or hand roller) to ensure a better adhesion. Vapor barriers are typically used on a concrete slab foundation for a rigid core vinyl plank installation. For peel & stick vinyl products, the use of a vapor barrier is not required. Please ensure the plywood is an underlayment grade plywood. Hope this helps answer your questions. Thank You -

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello Karen and thanks for your question. The installation of any type of floor covering can be time consuming since subfloor preparation is key to any great install. However, the peel and stick vinyl plank should be a lot easier to cut, and install. However, it should always be acclimated to the room for at least 48 hours prior to install. The subfloor needs to be primed using a flooring primer, and it should be rolled afterwards using a flooring roller. There are some great installation videos available online that will help understand the installation methods of each. Thanks again, and we wish you all the best with your flooring project.

Q:Has anyone had success with installing over osb wood subfloor? Any tips on getting to stick? I realize it will void my warranty but I love the pattern and colors so much and have been unsuccessful finding vinyl planks as pretty!

          Answer This Question

A:  Hello Karen - thank you for your inquiry. Installing vinyl peel & stick tiles or planks on OSB is not recommended - nor will work properly. OSB is not a suitable wood subfloor surface for self adhesive vinyl flooring products. The recommended surface in your situation would be to install a 1/4" luan or underlayment grade plywood on top of the OSB. Hope this helps answer your questions. Thank You -

Q:Does this style with all the colors come in luxury vinyl plank? I love it but want something with a sound absorbing pad. Will I hear footsteps if I used this on wood subfloors? I can hear them with laminate but its a rental and only been there when empty

            Answer This Question

A:  Hello Karen - thank you for your inquiry. Your local Home Depot stocks approximately 55 LVP items. There are numerous colors / styles to choose from. All of the LVP comes with a pre-attached pad. The thicker the plank, the better. Depending on the type of shoe being worn, you will hear footsteps on most hard flooring surfaces. Hope this helps answer your questions. Thank You -

Q:Can this flooring be installed under a stove or are the temperatures to high for it ?

A:  Hello AmyR - thanks for the inquiry. While temps under a range / stove will increase while in use, they shouldn't reach the threshold at which the vinyl peel & stick planks would be at risk. Most ranges / stoves have that "warming drawer". These planks are good up to 85°. Depending on the installation, some choose to go under or up to appliances - such as dishwashers or ranges. The only issue with that would be ensuring your appliances are level if the flooring wasn't ran all the way underneath it. Hope this helps answer your questions. Thank You -

Q:what is properly prepared existing resilient flooring? what is underlayment grade plywood? How will I know if I have that? When I call they tell me Homedepot dosnt make this flooring, so who does?

                Answer This Question

A:  Hello Rich - thank you for your inquiry. A properly prepared floor (or subfloor) is one that will accept the new vinyl peel & stick planks without issue. The subfloor surface in which you choose to install the new planks must be prepared in a way that the new ones adhere properly and will not release from that surface. Underlayment grade plywood typically means sanded smooth one side. Plywood comes in two sided graded. Such as A/C grade. A plywood such as OSB is not a suitable plywood substrate. Suitable subfloors are mentioned in the installation instructions posted online. This particular TrafficMaster vinyl plank is carried by The Home Depot. This may be a stocking issue. It's possible not all stores carry this particular plank. Calling your local Home Depot would be able to confirm this. If they do not carry it, they will be able to help you locate the product from another nearby location. Hope this helps answer your questions. Thank You -

                  Answer This Question

A:  Hello Karen and thanks for your question. The TrafficMaster Peel and Stick Vinyl Plank can only be installed over 3 types of subfloors - Concrete, underlayment grade plywood, and/or properly prepared (existing) resilient flooring. All other types of flooring will be unsuitable and will potentially cause adhesive to fail, and will also void the manufacturer's product warranty. It is also required to prime the subfloor with a suitable flooring primer, and roll the flooring afterward. For more information regarding installation, we would suggest reviewing the Installation and Warranty Guidelines (found in each carton or on the product page of Home Depot website) prior to installation. Thanks again.

                    Answer This Question

A:  Hello Mach, and thanks for your question. Unfortunately, the TrafficMaster Peel and Stick Vinyl Plank should never be installed below grade as the concrete subfloor could potentially have an overabundance of moisture, which could lead to adhesion failure and will also void the manufacturer's product warranty. On above grade installation, we would recommend using a flooring primer over concrete or underlayment grade plywood prior to installation, and then using a flooring roller afterwards. Thanks again.
