We do not recommend applying varnish over this product. To fill imperfections before staining and finishing, we recommend Rust-Oleum Varathane Wood Filler.

Q:What should I do if it dries up in the container? I only had it for a few weeks and used it once, then closed it tightly and stored away from light in regular conditions that are neither cold or hot.

A: I have used it outside without a problem but I don't know for sure that it is recommended for outside use. Be aware that it does NOT harden. It is not the typical wood putty. It is more like white silicone caulk, but thicker.

Q:Since I plan to patch, then paint my dark walnut doorway trim w/white high-gloss paint, would Varathane's wood putty accept paint? Or does it bleed through?
