Q:I have scratched dining chair legs. Can I use this only on the areas where it's needed or do I have to sand all of the legs fully?

Answer This Question
A: You can use a thin artist paint brush and only add this stain to the scratched areas. If the scratch is NOT absorbing the stain then multiple coats one on top of the other might be needed to cover. Then protect the area with a wax or poly coat.

A: Thank you for reaching out. Before applying Rust-Oleum Varathane Classic Interior Wood Stain remove any existing finishes with sandpaper or stripper. For a consistent finish across your project we recommend applying Varathane Classic to the entire surface.

Q:Can I use it to make maintain my hardwood floor and make it shiny? Please let me know if you recommend another product for this purpose? Thanks!

Answer This Question
A: No. This is a stain only. It is meant to go onto unfinished wood to change the color. If you just want to make your floors more shiny, then lightly sand, clean, and apply a poly top coat. Make sure the poly you use is made for floors and not furniture.

A: Thank you for reaching out. Rust-Oleum Varathane Classic Wood Stain provides a rich natural color for wooden floors. It provides minimal shine or sheen, for added sheen we recommend applying Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-Based Floor Finish.

Answer This Question
A: We're happy to help. Since Rust-Oleum Varathane Classic Wood Stain and Rust-Oleum Watco Danish Oil are both penetrating products they cannot be used with each other. Instead, we recommend top coating the stain using Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-Based Polyurethane.

Q:Can I use this to restrain a headboard
by|Dec 29, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: As long as the headboard is bare wood, Timothy, you can stain the surface using the Rust-Oleum Varathane Classic Stain. If you are unable to remove the coating/stain, you run the risk of having the new stain not penetrate in appropriately, which can cause issues with drying.
