A:  You can use a thin artist paint brush and only add this stain to the scratched areas. If the scratch is NOT absorbing the stain then multiple coats one on top of the other might be needed to cover. Then protect the area with a wax or poly coat.

A:  No. This is a stain only. It is meant to go onto unfinished wood to change the color. If you just want to make your floors more shiny, then lightly sand, clean, and apply a poly top coat. Make sure the poly you use is made for floors and not furniture.

If you are unable to remove the coating/stain, you run the risk of having the new stain not penetrate in appropriately, which can cause issues with drying.
