Q:If the primary pump fails (as in it breaks and no longer functions), can just that unit be replaced? Or would you have to get a whole new separate unit including a new backup pump? I wouldn't want to replace the backup if that is still working...

Q:Would this pump be appropriate for a situation where water fills the pit quickly, since the float travel is apparently only 5"? It would seem as the pump would be cycling very frequently.

Answer This Question
A: These pumps are designed for indoor use only. To pump clear water that has been filtered down thru the ground and comes in thru the drain tiles. When the water level reaches 9" from the bottom of the pump, the pump comes on and pumps out 5" of water. You would set the DC pump's float to come on when the water level reaches 10"-12" and will take the water down to 4" from the bottom of the pump. Depending on the width of the pit, would depend on how quickly the pump cycles.

Q:If height of pumps and plumbing is 14", why does pit need to be 22" deep?
What is travel height of float from off to on?
Could you leave the float off and use a separate tethered style switch plugged inline with AC power cord of main pump?
Thank you.

Answer This Question
A: The AC pumps float will allow the pump to come on at 9" and turn off at 4" water levels. We like for the DC pumps float to set a little higher and should allow the pump to come on at 10" -12". Both of these need to be set below the flow of water coming in from your drainage tile pipe. We do not recommend you take off the float and use a tether float.

Q:Is it normal for the box that its packaged in to have oil soaked into the cardboard? There's oil on top and bottom inside of box. Is this normal? Is there a bad seal on the pump and is it leaking oil or is it just residue from the manufacturing process?

A: When a product is shipped containing oil it is very difficult to avoid having some soak into the packaging. The package can get rough treatment during shipping, and can have some oil on the surface when packaged. If the amount of oil seems excessive inspect the product for damage.
