A: I always put a coat or two of stain on boards in contact with anything that might wick water. It seems to make them last much longer.
by|Jan 9, 2023
A: Hello Sonnaps, Yes, you can do that. As a side note, we've been seeing that some customers are extending the life of their lumber by coating the boards where they go into the ground and just above the ground with a tar-like substance. This is not a requirement, but there is nothing wrong with adding longevity to a product.

Answer This Question
A: Hello JJ, You can put pressure treated wood directly on concrete; any exterior concrete that is in contact with earth may wick moisture. For that reason, it is required to place pressure treated wood directly against the concrete if you wish to build off that concrete with untreated wood. Pressure-treated wood is required whenever you attach framing lumber or furring strips directly to concrete or other exterior masonry walls below grade.

A: Yes, It can. I have found that these typically last 5-7 years directly in the dirt, outside. If you are worried about it you can search for foundation lumber and it's treated even more so.
