A:  The dimensions of the porcelain enameled cast iron cooking grates are 17.4" x 11.8". The original gourmet BBQ System Griddle can be placed right on top of the grates. For the Griddle - Spirit II 200/300 and Spirit 200/300 series, you would remove one of the grates and sits above the flavorizer bars. We hope this helps!

A:  The sides if the lid are a casting of some metal, but I can’t tell what the metal is. 

A:  It's basically an area that gets extremely hot (controlled by you). When you place meat (typically steaks) on it, it gives a somewhat quick searing on the meat. It "locks" in the flavor and juices in the beginning of grilling. You then continue grilling as normal. It's a good feature to have. I am very happy with this grill. Best one I have ever owned. Well worth the cost over other, cheaper brands.

A:  Hi Francois, the side burner has 12,000 BTU, which can provide enough heat for a variety of cooking methods, including frying!

A:  Yes, its does all of the things you have asked for. I have Cooked so many recipes with the side burner. Its almost like our middle size gas Burner.

A:  The side burner works just like a burner on a gas stove in a kitchen.  It will heat your oil.  Just know that the space for a large frying pan on the outdoor grill is somewhat limited.
