Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for reaching out Martie. Wolman Woodlife CopperCoat Green Wood Preservative is a multi-purpose, EPA-registered, insecticidal wood preservative designed to protect exterior untreated or pressure-treated wood in below ground, ground contact, fresh water contact or above ground installations. CopperCoat has a strong odor. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

A:  I bought this product last year and coated the bottom of my pressure treated wood posts before setting in ground. No odor, I also coated with a healthy layer of beeswax to seal the outside before setting in ground.

      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for reaching out. The reason online products are sold by the case is for shipping purposes. In many instances, including this one with the Rust-Oleum Wolman WoodLife CopperCoat, items must be shipped by case quantities. For this reason, when purchasing items online, they must be purchased in this way. For individual cans, we recommend visiting your local Home Depot store to see if they have the product in stock. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

        Answer This Question

A:  Just Like pressure treated lumber the color always fades however the treatment stands with them. Feel free to reapply every five years

        by|Mar 22, 2022

A:  Thank you for reaching out, Tony. Rust-Oleum Wolman Wood Life CopperCoat imparts a transparent green color that naturally fades over time. The natural green color can be over-coated with oil-based primer, paint, or stain. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

          by|Mar 18, 2022

A:  It will fade a bit. If you only treat a cut end and it "overlaps" the factory treatment it will be noticeable for a while.

            by|Mar 18, 2022

A:  No. The color is due to the copper in it which is what preserves the wood. If the color leaches out the protection is reduced. If you want to change the color you can add a small amount of OIL based stain.  You can add a SMALL amount of boiled linseed oil to seal the wood and reduce leaching of the protection.  Be sure to use several coats on the wood end grain.

                    by|Mar 12, 2022

A:  Great question, Ruger! When applying Rust-Oleum Wolman CoperCoat Wood Preservative over new wood, you will want to check for the presence of surface barriers such as paraffin wax (pressure treated wood) or mill glaze (Cedar, Redwood, etc.) by performing a Splash Test. This is done by sprinkling a few drops of water on the surface to be coated. If the water is absorbed rapidly, the surface is ready to receive coating. If the water beads or is not absorbed, a surface barrier exists which must be removed. Apply Rust-Oleum Wolman Deck & Fence Brightener and then re-test. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Wolman-1-gal-Deck-and-Fence-Brightener-Case-of-4-16116/204069612 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

A:  There are MANY uses for a wood preservative. Some where the specific active ingredients are very much wanted, but a hgh-concentration of those same ingredients is very much NOT WANTED. Copper preservative concentration levels? Look up the effects some have on legacy fasteners and metal joinery, attach, reinforcement, and similar structural plates for example. - Greatly acccelerated corrosion, driving a need to use more costly metals (stainless steel) ? - Or no significant risk at all with less-coslty common metals (galvanized)? There IS NO "one size fits all". Do your research. Select a good fit for the specific tasking. Gain? Longer service life. Lesser cost. Better yet? BOTH! :)

A:  Thank you for reaching out! Our Wolman CopperCoat Green Wood Preservative is a treatment designed to protect wood against insects and rot, and contains copper naphthenate. If this product was spilled on wood that was already treated with CopperCoat, there is no issue, and the excess may be wiped away from the surface. This will not cause any issues with re-treating the deck in the Spring, and you can reapply as you normally would. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

A:  Hi Steven, thank you for reaching out! We recommend applying our Wolman CopperCoat when outside temperatures are between 50-90°F, and when no precipitation is expected within 24 hours. If it becomes cooler at night, that is fine, just be sure to check the forecast for the dew point, as a heavy dew in the first 24 hours can have the same impact as rain. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

A:  Thanks for asking. We do not recommend mixing Rust-Oleum Wolman WoodLife CopperCoat with any other products. It may affect the curing and/or performance of the products. However, once this product has been applied and is allowed to dry completely, It is possible to paint or stain the surface. If you use water-based paint as a topcoat, then we recommend allowing a month of cure time to ensure adhesion. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5
