Q:Does this work as a primer on laminate cabinets?
by|Apr 20, 2024

Answer This Question

A:  Happy to clear things up, Emma! Rust-Oleum Zinsser Gardz Problem Surface Sealer is intended to seal problem porous surfaces such as bare or damaged drywall, plaster, cement and cementitious coatings, spackling paste and joint compound, calcimine, stucco, acoustic and texture finishes, and uncoated wallpaper. If just needing to prime bare laminate cabinets, we recommend Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water-Based Primer instead. This will help block most stains, as it is a white primer, and promote adhesion. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-Bulls-Eye-1-2-3-1-Gal-White-Water-Based-Interior-Exterior-Primer-and-Sealer-2001/100398391 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Q:I originally purchased 1 Gal. White Acrylic Interior Drywall Plus Primer and Sealer by BEHR to seal drywall before painting. I see the label on the BEHR product says it's not meant for humid areas; my house gets humid. Would GARDZ work better for me?

    Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help! Rust-Oleum Zinsser Gardz Problem Surface Sealer can be used in areas with humidity, provided there isn't prolonged contact with water. You also want to ensure that the relative humidity in the space is below 85% during application and drying to ensure proper drying. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

      Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help, Danny! To ensure lasting results with Rust-Oleum Zinsser Gardz Problem Surface Sealer, we do recommend either applying a paint/primer or some sort of finish, such as joint compound, spackling paste, or a popcorn/texture finish over it. We do not recommend leaving Gardz as is after application. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Q:I’m going to use this on old plaster that has been stripped of wallpaper. My question is: should I still use sizing before installing pasted wallpaper?

          Answer This Question

A:  Great question, Veronica! While Zinsser Gardz Problem Surface Sealer will seal the plaster, it will not act as a wall size. We recommend using a wallpaper size over the Gardz prior to wallpapering. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3
