Hi HomeDepotCustomer. Black Iron is the nick name for Malleable Iron. The industry needed a way to differentiate between Gray Iron, which appears to be lighter shade of gray than malleable iron fittings. Rather than saying Gray iron and malleable, the industry used the terms gray iron and black iron.
