I bought this item because I needed a set of knitting needles longer than the commercially available lengths of 10 & 14 inches. I found tutorials and instructions for making my own needles - these dowels, cut in half, make the best wooden knitting needles outside of bamboo. I only have a couple of issues that made this less than ideal. One is, knitting needles are sized by millimeters, but the wooden dowels are sized by fractions of inches. Before I went shopping, I had to convert all of the fractions to millimeters to see which of the dowels matched up with standard knitting needles sizes - and I found this 3/16" to be closest to several common sized needles, and though it's not exactly the size I need, there really wasn't anything that could get any closer without going far over. The other problem has to do with the finish - I have to concoct a beeswax & mineral oil finish that'll hopefully (from what other knitters have said) make this wood easier to work with regular yarn. I took a picture when I tested the needles with homemade t-shirt yarn, which is stretchier than and not as fibrous as regular yarns. All in all, though, to be able to make my own needles and not constrained to just what's available commercially is a huge bonus for me. It allows me to make garments or items for the home that idI have considered not in my reach just a few months ago. And for the price - not just in comparison to a pair of needles but also to other dowels - this can't be beat.

They’re just dowel rods so the size was accurate, circumference and length. They did what I needed them to do.

I bought it to make perches for my smaller birds that like bark butter.

Used it to make dowel pin to replace two that broke when assembling a cabinet. It was easy to cut. Held the shelf in very well.

Dowels worked great for our need, we used them for additional support of feathers on a paper-mache bird sculpture for an art exhibition.

This dowel was dimensioned as advertised and easy to cut with my miter saw.

It was the smallest dowel stick I found. I liked that I could cut it at the store for the lengths I needed.
