I use these elbows to make bird toys. They're light in weight but strong enough to withstand the attention of large powerful bird beaks. The bond formed between the elbow and PVC pipe is wonderfully strong - I've never had a joint fail when I used PVC cement to join the two pieces. There are no dangerous chemicals leaching from the PVC, and it's easy to wash with just soap and water.
All of the attributes above contribute to my decision to use PVC pipe to make some toys for large companion birds such as Macaws and Cockatoos. A photo of a foraging toy made of PVC piping and stainless steel hardware is attached.
I used this elbow piece plus PVC pipes for a birthday party backdrop. The PVC stood up against ten 13-year olds at a birthday party without issue. However, when I was building the backdrop it fell and hit my head and the elbow piece broke into five pieces. I'd give it five stars if I didn't still have that faint reminder of me getting in a fight with plastic poles in my driveway...and the poles winning.
