I was hesitant to try this product. The brand I have used for years was unavailable. This is much better than the other brand and less expensive! I was fearful that it would have an odor. There is none. The texture is fine. I am using using it as a top dressing for around trees and flower garden.

The bags appear to be well composted as there is very little odor, if any at all.

It is a bag of cow droppings! Excellent

The manure is so convenient in a bag. It also has nice texture. And I liked getting it from inside the store instead of other places that have it outside the store and it gets wet. I’m 79 and it was easy to order, I just ordered online and picked up at curbside.

great for my gardens

We built raised beds for vegetables. We bought this thinking it was the best start. The bag contained plant roots!!! We shook it out and had a ball of plant roots as big as a cantalope! Not knowing exactly what would grow from that was most frustrating. It is not what you would expect from the name. Spend a little more, but be warned. Black cow is just mulch after the first rain.

It's definitely worth the money and act as a good amendment

I thought that it would help stimulate my lawn but it infested it with a foreign weed. I would never purchase it again.

The overall cost was good but the product is a little woody. The composted soil separates in the garden after a good rain and leaves a coat of small wood chips. This wood product then forms a hard shell and becomes grey after a growing season.

This compost is good.

Im not an expert on manure but a lot of the bags seem to contain a lot of sand which doesnt seem correct. I thought manure was cow dung and other waste products.

I do mix one bag of 40lb composted with 12 bags of top soil and spread on my garden and is perfect

I loved how easy it was to spread due to the massive amount of sand in it. It appeared to be screened down to 1"with the majority 1/4" or less. With such fine screening how did yall manage to miss the consistent 2-3 2"-4" river rock in each bag. Is there a QC position making sure every bag has a couple questionably sized rocks in each bag? If so sign me up! As long as you stay under the allotted amount of debris. Am I right? ;)

40lb bag with 5 lbs pea-gravel

Like other reviewers, I used this in a new garden bed and found that all plants that sprouted soon yellowed and died. Seedlings planted within 2 feet of the new compost are thriving. Four months in, and the composted areas are bare of weeds while areas next to the compost are in need of constant weeding. This product is contaminated with persistent herbicides!!! Do not use except to prevent growth.
