CAUTION: purchased the champion toilet in October 2017 for use in our second bathroom. In September 2020 the tank cracked like many others in posted reviews! In fact the toilet was not even used for three (3) months when the tank cracked. Lucky for us we turned the water off in our Condo so the water spilled was minimal. Unlucky for me when I checked the warranty I did not register my toilet (never have in my life) or could find the original receipt - MY loss! BEWARE of tank failures. NOTE: toilet was installed by a licensed plumber.

Very disappointed from “American” Standard product. Bought this toilet less than only two years ago and I found water all over the bathroom floor due to the cracked tank. I had to call out cleanup crew to come in over the weekend to replace the toilet and clean up the mess left behind. It’s really un-American to call this product ‘American Standard’ since I see so many other reviews with similar issue.

Bought three of the Champion 4 Max in 2017, works well till today, September 9, 2020, found water on the floor, the root cause is the cracked water tank (see the picture). it seems I am not alone. the replacement tank cost $150 from the Home depot website. Beware of this brand !

We have had this toilet for a year and just recently noticed there is a long hairline crack on the front of the base that just "appeared" for no reason. I was going to email American Standard and see that I am not alone after reading the reviews... I like the toilet but the crack appearing for no reason so soon after purchase is disappointing :(

Welcome to Monday morning to find our toilet tank is cracked from the handle downward. I see a few other reviews about this issue, so I guess we are not alone. Our purchase was made May 2018. Paid a plumber $75 to install it. Now I'm looking at paying to purchase another toilet and have another installation bill. So frustrating. On top of that, this evening I spent 31 minutes on hold trying to reach customer service at American Standard, only to be disconnected. When I called back, the recording said they were now closed for the day. I am so frustrated. I really liked this toilet. It did not stain and cleaned so easy. Now I don't know what to do. I don't care to get another one that is going to crack in two years. I also have been trying to reach Home Depot, but their line is constantly busy. (Not sure you can see the crack in the photo, but believe me, it is there.)

2 years ago bought this model thinking it would last years. It is located in a guest bathroom that gets rare use. Last night noticed water on the floor and after further inspection saw the tank is cracked from the handle diagonally across to the whole tank. No one has used bath in weeks. Water is consistently seeping out of crack. I specifically purchased American Standard because of the company's good reviews. Also appealing was a 10 year limited warranty on box. Extremely disappointed. Looking into other brands.

Easy install

The toilet flushes well and is quiet enough but the seat is not that sturdy. I also had a leak at the floor seal. I don’t know if it was a problem with the wax seal or the installer. I just had a new floor installed and they installed the toilet. An oversized wax seal fixed the problem. As for the seat you might consider buying a solid one. I’m planning on adding a full bidet seat.

Went to my bathroom to get ready for bed. Found water in the floor from a crack in the tank that is identical to so many others in these reviews. This was in a master bath and nothing has hit the tank and it was installed correctly. The crack is no where near the bolts attaching to the base. It appears there is a weakness in the construction around the handle area and over time the tank will crack. Maybe a design change to move the handle to the side on on top would help. In the meantime I think I will go with a different brand toilet. Why get another tank with the same potential problem? Otherwise the toilet was great. I am so disappointed in this American Standard toilet.

White but not stark white, so nice shade of white. Flushes fantastic, the seat work great as soft close, but the seat part is a bit thinner then many and hard plastic of course so not overly soft for those that need a long sit for business. Not bad, just not overly comfortable. Fit the spot of the old one nicely and the comfort height is wonderful. My toilets were old so this one felt like a huge upgrade for me.

I hired a new plumber and couldn't believe how quickly he installed this toilet. Here's a cute, short comment from a three and a half year old girl. " it's smaller than the old toilet. Perfect for me." The sleek design will make clean up a much faster chore. It flushes so quickly using much less water, that in itself makes it perfect. Thanks American Standard!!!

This toilet does what it is designed to do. Everything you need is included in the box. I gave 4 stars and not 5 because my only issue is the seat that is included is a flimsy plastic version. I purchased a replacement seat. I would recommend this toilet

But not the tall one again. My tenant was disappointed with the height. I love the champion 4 product as a whole. I have them in most of my rentals and my own home. Also always recommend to my friends for dependablity

This toilet worked good for 3 years then I woke up to a flooded bathroom. The toilet tank cracked down the front where the handle attached. Now I have water damage in my basement. I would definitely avoid buying this toilet!

After a year and a half the tank developed a crack from the handle running diagonally to the base in the guest bathroom. The guest bathroom doesn't get a lot of traffic I am the only one in the house. Fortunately I was at home to catch the leak before it caused any damage in the bathroom. I will be replacing the toilet with an other brand as well at the toilet (same model) in the master bathroom. As far as installation I can't speak to that it was done by a professional. I gave it 2 stars because it worked well up until the point of failure.

I had this toilet installed during a bathroom remodel two years ago. The only problem I had a few times was a slow leak by the flush valve causing the refill valve to open every now and then for a few seconds. This all changed yesterday. I was in the vicinity of the toilet when I heard a ping. I started to locate the source of the ping when I noticed a small puddle of water on the floor to the left of the toilet. Then, as I looked up, I noticed a crack in the front of the tank running from the top, thru the square opening for the flush lever and down about 2/3 of the way to the bottom. See the attached picture how the crack seems to start at 2 corners of the square opening for the flush lever. You can also see clearly that the crack is opened up, with a gap of almost 1/16 inch. That tells me that there was some kind of tension present in the front of the tank wall and then finally the ceramic gave way. Last night I sent a message to American Standard regarding this issue and I am currently waiting for them to reply. In the mean time I checked the Home Depot web site and I saw a listing for this tank (4215A) but currently it is not available in stores nor online. I proceeded to read thru the reviews there and I was astonished at the high number of reviewers who experienced the same exact problem. It is clear now that this is related to a design/manufacturing defect. This seems to be going on for some time. I do not have confidence that a replacement tank would fare any better. This time I was lucky being there when it happened. I can imagine being away for a whole day and coming home to a flooded bathroom. No, thanks. I'll take the loss and replace the entire toilet with a different brand.

I recently bought a Champion 4 Max toilet and installed it. This toilet had a water leak from bad casting. Returned the bad toilet and bought the same model from a different store. Shame on me for thinking that the new toilet would be any better. Look what I just found under the upper lip of the bowl. American Standard.

Purchased this toilet in 2016 to replace original 30+ year old unit. Recently found a crack across the front of the bowl flange that was slowly growing in length. Also, flush valve was leaking after about a year and was eventually causing refill to trigger every few hours. Finally contacted AS customer support, but since I did not retain the original receipt, the warranty was worthless. I tried to get a duplicate receipt from Home Depot but they could not go back that far in time. I just removed it and replaced it with a Kohler. AS warranty is good considering their poor quality, but you must save your original receipt.

Very happy with this toilet and the price was great too!

I bought this toilet about a year ago. Three weeks ago I noticed water on my bathroom floor around the toilet. At first I thought the seal where the toilet attaches to the floor was leaking but then I saw water leaking from the tank. The tank developed a crack from where the handle is attached from the top to the bottom of the tank. (picture attached) I called American Standard and filed a claim which was approved. I was told my new tank would arrive in ten business days. It's been three weeks and I have not received the tank. I hadn't heard from them so I called and now they tell me my tank will not arrive until June 10th. I filed the claim on April 6th. That is 61 days I have to wait for the new tank. I hope the patch I put to stop the leak holds.

Good toilet, install was very easy and straight forward. Took less than 20 minutes. Review is for the round bowl version. I was not happy with the included American Standard seat. It was not comfortable to use and a bit undersized. I replaced the included seat with a standard Bemis seat for a round toilet for about $20.00. It made a huge difference and I am quite happy now with the new seat and the toilet. I would recommend changing seat for sure!

This toilet really flushes as advertised so it worked out it great.

Purchased today in North Haven. Returned Kohler Cimaron beacuse of a leak. The Kohler was a pain to install. The leak was a real pia. Chris in North Haven was amazing. First in finding our lost receipt and then swapping out the Kohler return and load out of this AS toilet. Installation required NO Tools. Easy instructions, and no issues. 20 minute install with a minimal understanding. I did use a $10, rubber seal instead of the included wax seal. I cannot praise this enough. No cursing at all! Well done at a very reasonable price.

Bought this toilet and sure enough a little over a year after installing it, the tank cracked right by the handle. I am seeing this is a repetitive issue with this toilet. I am seeing the tank sells for $144. Not looking forward to having to buy this. Wish I would of seen this issue before buying this in the first place. Buyer beware.

I have three of these units now. One has an issue with valve and refilling but simple call and part is on way from American standard. Replaced some 5 decade old American standard toilets with these. Purchased one Kohler. Wont make that mistake again. 10 year warrenty says it all. Others backing their units are not even a quarter that lenght. Work as expected or better outside one issue. Heavy well built and comfortable. Complete package even the no slam seat. American standard is only brand to buy. Easy parts replacement. Long guarantees are taken care off without question.

This toilet was bought in Feb 2017. Now 17 months later, there is suddenly a hairline crack formed from the the top to bottom of the tank while we were on vacation when it was not used. Water leaked all over the bathroom floor. The toilet was installed by a licensed plumber and used gently without any excess weight put on it. I just came across a lot of reviews regarding the same problem with this model of toilet made by American Standard and sold in Home Depot. I wish I read them before I made this purchase. I am not sure whether it is American Standard and Home Depot, but I am disappointed with both companies. Apparently, there is such thing as below-standard ceramics in toilets that is sold by a big box store. Other than that, the small size toilet has an effective flush.

Bad product After using the toilet for 4 years, the tank developed a hairline crack in the tank. I´m still trying to contact AS for warranty. Home Depot doesn´t cover it. Wish the tank was made from other material, like strong PVC.

I am very disappointed that Home Depot continues to carry this product. We purchased this toilet for our second bathroom in the basement that us not used very frequently. It was installed in late Dec 2017 and we came home on 5/28/18 from vacation to find that the tank had a crack in it and blue tinged water was all over our newly installed tile floor. I had a party scheduled for 6/9/18 and on 6/2/18 called American Standard as suggested by others who have written here with the same experience. I was told that it would take 7 to 10 days to receive a replacement tank. We had to buy a replacement tank in the interim to accommodate our guests and have a plumber install it. After two weeks I emailed the person at American Standard who took my claim and she was on vacation with no backup person assigned, which is unheard of in the customer service field. I waited until two days after her return to email her again with no response. I called on 6/29/18 and spoke to someone else and they said it was shipped on 6/28/18 and she gave me the tracking number. It arrived on 7/2/18, one month after it was ordered. There are numerous reviews on this site about this toilet that relate the same cracking issue. I wish I had read them before I purchased it because I also have one in my main bathroom. Better yet, perhaps Home Depot should read the reviews that people post about the products they carry and pull the product from their shelves. This cost us an additional $200.00 between the replacement tank and the plumber that we should not have had to spend.
