I recently visited Home Depot to check out the garden hoes. I only plant a small garden each year thus I only have small garden hand tools to work with. Next year I plan on having a larger garden so it was time to get a working tool whereas I can stand erect and not stress my back so much. I also have another project in mind which requires the use of a digging tool for trenching an underground gas line from my existing 500 gallon propane tank to where my future house backup generator will be installed. This Ames hardwood handled steel hoe with the 54” handle and 3.5” wide blade with the tongs is just right for my generator project and also for my future gardening needs. To my luck this particular Ames hoe happened to be on sale as well were the leaf rakes, so I picked me up 26” wide Ames leaf rake too. Both Ames products are great choices.

This Ames tool, along with other similar tools, mount the tool head to the handle by pressure fitting a rod up a hole, then covering it with a tapered steel sheath. This type of tool construction works ok for a while, but every tool I get like this does not last more than 2-3 years. The steel sheath bends at the end, the rod gets loose, the sheath is removed so hose clamps hold it together again. I would gladly pay for a tool head fork design that bolts onto the tool handle. It would last longer and the handle is cheaper to replace if it wears out.

It bent! It very easily and very quickly bent! We used it in grass and within an hour we noticed it was starting to bend. After 3 days if use it is so bent that it's unusable.

The curbside pick up is great. However the handle breaks when first use.

This product is worthless. Bought one at my local Home Depot for chopping weeds in a horse pasture. It is an absolute lie that this tool is made of tempered metal. It bent and deformed within the first half-hour of use. The broad end had NO EDGE; it is a blunt instrument. Home Depot should really reconsider selling this junk.

It bent the first day. I had to go back to using my old short handled one, my back hates the cheep gage of the metal. My old one is almost twice as thick.

The head isn't very secure, and the flat side of the hoe doesn't have a sharpened edge, so it can't break through a heavy clay soil.

Although I would have preferred a 3-prong hoe, 2-prongs still did the job. The prongs still allowed me to breakup the dirt and plant my grass seeds.

Built very sturdy. Well worth the money.

bad news... the neck was loose and the hoe blade was dull. i returned it.

This is a great tool for gardening and yard work. It’s a little heavier at times than I wanted.

Showed up too late. Spring comes early in Southern California, It shouldn't take so much time to get a necessary tool

I bought this for my son’s Halloween costume, but plan to use it afterward for weeding. It’s perfect for his costume! Will update review next summer once I have used it for its actual purpose.
