I really like this shovel
This is a great shovel. The fact it is made in the USA is a big deal to me, and it looks and feels like a great shovel. The scoop part of the shovel looks like it should weigh a lot, but the shovel is actually pretty light weight. I very much like the over sized part of the shovel where you put your foot to dig into the dirt ( or what ever). It is very stable and it has anti slip perforations (where your foot meets the shovel) to help you avoid having an accident. It has a rubber grip at the top of the shovel to make handling easier.

Solid well made shovel
I was looking for a replacement shovel to move material around to different parts of my raised beds and other general gardening work. This shovel is perfect for it!!! This might be my new favorite shovel as its well balanced and long enough for garden tasks. It has a solid hardwood handle that also has a grip part on the top of it. The bottom is forged metal that is solid and wont bend if you load it up with gravel. It's made in the USA and the bottom metal part is vastly superior to the cheap metal ones from other countries. The steps on the side the bottom of the blade make it easy to go into stuff. This is not a digging shovel, its more for moving material but I had no problem doing some digging with it in lighter material

seems well built and solid. Nicer to the feet than my old shovel. good beefy handle
I needed a replacement for my many years old (think 20 years or so) square nose shovel with a splintering handle and this fit the bill nicely. It's an upgrade for sure. I should have done this sooner. I've had a number of tools with both fiberglass and wooden handles. Each has it's own advantages but on the whole I've not seen that the fiberglass holds up any better than a good wood handle so I decided to go this way since I like wood handles. (I've broken my share of both types of handles) I like that this is a beefier wooden handle (note the difference in the pictures between it and the old shovel) and the rubber on the end is nice. The flat areas for your feet on the shovel are much better than the old one I had. My tired old feet say thank you to the shove makers. I'm very pleased with that. I don't put the stress on my tools now that I'm in my 50's that I did when I was younger but I still want something solid. I just finished digging a 50 ft trench and moving and arranging 160 bags of top soil as part of some landscaping I've been doing and having a solid tool to help with the job makes it a little bit easier. I also like that it is a little larger than my old shovel and can scoop up a bit more with each swipe. When you get older you need every bit of help you can get with these little jobs. This is a well built tool and I think it will stand up to all I can put it through. Time to retire my other tired old shovel. At my age this one may outlast me if I don't abuse it too badly.

Shovel head split when shoveling fresh rock
After using this shovel for about a month for dirt work I was satisfied with the shovels solid handle. Then i received a load of gravel and was spreading some by hand. All was going well until i noticed that the metal shovel head was splitting in two. The small gravel is still lodged in the split. After this happened I had grabbed a second shovel and sat this ames shovel beside the garage (Leaving it in the weather on accident). My next step is to call the manufacture because I purchased this two months ago. The shovel seems like a good, durable product even though mine failed

Shovel is a work of art!
The first thing I noticed when I went to pick up this shovel was its design and how much quality was put into a single shovel. The rubberized grip enhances ergonomics, the steel is tempered for greater toughness and a longer life, and the shoulder tabs on the blade have small nibs to prevent your foot from slipping off. the blade is pinned to the shaft to prevent the loss of parts. I could go into greater detail about the nicely-stained and finished shaft, to the imprinted details on the blade, but it's really one of those things you need to see in person to appreciate. -If you're a gardener, landscaper, or outdoor enthusiast and you want a REALLY fancy shovel, then this is the one!

    Easy grip handle
I finally got around to cleaning the leaves off the patio. 4 wheelbarrows worth. It stays so wet at the back of the house that it's hard to leaf blower them into piles to shovel into the wheelbarrow off to the mulch bin. This year we've had some strange thunderstorms and cold weather for May which made it harder to do. What comes after the removal of the leaves is finding the edge of the cement. The slight incline of the surrounding earth lets it meander onto the patio cement. A good flat nose shovel will cut through what has meandered and let me put it in the wheelbarrow along with the leaves. This is a good shovel. The easy grip handle makes it easy to turn the shovel over to let the leaves or dirt fall into the wheelbarrow. Most wooden handled shovels slip in your hand and won't dump easily into the wheelbarrow.

    A quality sccop
This is a well constructed shovel. The handle is very strong and the metal is solid. The solid metal head makes it a bit heavier than I expected, but it will last. I like that the shovel is tightly riveted so there is no annoying "play" when scooping up small, heavy stones. The foot pushes are convenient, but this type of shovel is really made for transferring verses digging (it's not meant to be a spade). The wood handle is the perfect length for me (I'm 6' tall) which saves my back. Having a 15 year warranty is great and tells me that Ames stands behind this product.

    Quality shovel
Needed a strong medium size shovel for home use. I like to use for gravel, dirt and mulch clean up. This a very sturdy and well made shovel. The shovel itself is a good size for around the house. It has a tread are to place your foot for extra power and has grooves to help with gripping the shovel while lifting. The handle is very strong, thick wood and has a comfort soft cover to help reduce blisters.
