Never chips
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have done three kitchens with this enamel on the cabinets and I have yet to see a chip. I will never try anything else!

However, Home Depot Brunswick told me that this would not come to my work e-mail and they would update the e-mail I gave them at the store on Saturday. Please do so

This stuff does exactly what it's supposed to do! We painted vinyl walls in a trailer and the primer stuck really well and dried fast!! We painted the whole house within 2 days thanks to this product!

    Absolute garbage
This primer is a joke, it’s been two days and the primer still isn’t dry enough to sand. It just pills under sand paper. Don’t ruin your project with this awful product

Never dries hard to the touch
You all need to go back to the drawing board with this product it definitely needs a better drying agent, after a week of applying still rolls when sanding very disappointed. A product should powder sand for the best results.

Hi there, Thanks for taking the time to review our Acrylic Alkyd Undercoater. I'm sorry to hear the primer has not dried as you expected. While sanding is not required before applying your topcoat, you can certainly do this if you need to get a smoother finish. I can recommend increasing the ventilation in your space and allowing a little more dry time, if possible (12-24 hours), before trying to sand again with 200-grit sandpaper. I've also reached out to you via email to get more info about your project and assist further. Thanks again for providing your feedback, and I hope to hear from you soon! -Christina
Used this to prime for cabinets i am painting. Seems to have done a great job? Would recommend to anyone!

Went on smooth on bare wood cabinetry and wasn't too thick like many primers are.

This does a great job in building up an undercoat. However, after a long wait to cure, it is difficult to sand because the latex seems to roll off under the sand paper, rather than make sanding dust. I will stick with SW oil based wood primer for future builds.

Hi Lester, thanks for your review. I'm sorry to hear our Acrylic Alkyd Undercoater was hard to sand and didn't dry as quickly as you expected. This primer should be dry to the touch in 30 minutes; however, I'd recommend letting it dry for at least 24 hours before sanding to ensure it doesn't gum up. Customer satisfaction is very important to us, so feel free to reach out to our Customer Care team directly for further assistance. They are always happy to help. Enjoy the rest of your day. -Christina Behr

I used this before I painted my table top and it seems to be working great. It went on smooth and easy and gave very good coverage with one coat. I used two coats but, I like to be safe.

I asked the gentleman to shake the paint before I brought it home. I started my project, and the paint was full of lumps and clumps, and I was unable to use this primer. I had to go to my local. close by but I had to pay twice the price for a different brand because I had already started the project and I was very disappointed with this product.

Not Good - Returned to Store
We are painting all of the cabinetry in our RV and decided to use Behr Alkyd paint so we bought this recommended undercoating. The can indicates it will dry in one hour. After four days, it was still not completely dry. I checked online and found others had experienced the same issue with this undercoating. I returned the almost unused gallon to Home Depot and bough Killz for our primer. Stuck with Behr but went with their cabinet and trim paint instead.

Hi there, thank you for your review. Sorry to hear that the Acrylic Alkyd Undercoater wasn't completely dry after 4 days, Cooler temperatures and higher humidity can cause longer dry times. If the primer was dry, but tacky, like the back of a post-it note the paint could be applied without any issues. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance; our customer care team is happy to help you! -Ronald Behr

Scrapes easily, even day or two after painting so would not trust to topcoat that with paint and think it will last on the door or frames or trims if they where previously finished. Sanded lightly and used de-glosser but still no results as expected. Stix on the same surface not scratching off.

Hi Marcin, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear you are not getting the durability you expected. Primers and undercoaters are not formulated with the same protection and durability as a topcoat and are not meant to take on abrasions. Once topcoated, the paint will cure to a protective hard finish that can provide durability against scratches and other forces. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance; our Customer Care team is happy to help! -Lina Behr

            Behr Alkyd Primer 437
Read the other reviews, they are accurate that this stuff takes forever to dry. I'm 3 days in after spraying test panel and it's nowhere near sandable. still super tacky. not sure it will ever dry enough to sand. Garbage.

            Response from BehrJan 19, 2023
Hello, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing a tacky finish with our primer. Although our Acrylic-Alkyd Enamel Undercoater dries to the touch in 30 minutes and can be recoated after 1 hour, sandability may take a bit longer as it requires the product to cure. The full cure time for this product is 30 days. However, rest assured, you do not need to wait the full cure time as the primer will typically start to build a hard sandable finish after about a week. Please keep in mind that cooler temperatures and high humidity conditions may extend the dry time. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate you sharing your honest experience and feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance; our Customer Care team is happy to help! -Lina Behr
