Not clear, peels, do not buy
This is all around terrible product. Followed instructions and the color is uneven and peeling off already after it dried. I painted my whole fence with this crap, now I have to remove it and start all over—with a DIFFERENT product (obviously).

To fix the fence without taking off the stain, I recommend removing any loose coating and cleaning the surface with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner to encourage even absorption of the stain and ensure the proper adhesion. The sealer was very easy to apply. I put it in a garden sprayer, sprayed it on the fence, wiped it around with a rag, and it turned out wonderful.

Here comes the sun
Holy yellow color. This stain absolutely utterly ruined my doors. I'm appalled. I used expensive hardwood and it's all for nothing. I'm so mad.

Definitely not clear
I took a beautiful piece of exterior wood, and it turned it yellow, hiding most all of the grain, this is the product that the Home Depot associate said was best for my project. I wish i would’ve bought a different product from a different manufacturer. I have not been having the best luck with Behr lately. They are overpriced for the quality product that they are now producing. I guess it’s back to Benjamin Moore.

TURNS WOOD DECKS YELLOW!!
Purchase this product because Olympic was out of stock of the clearcoat. I thought that the clearcoat would just be applied and look normal, boy was wrong! As soon as I open up the can, it had a yellow tint to it, so I started stirring it. When I applied it, it was not easy to apply and took some time for it to be coated on the wood. I waited over three days to dry. As soon as the water started, hitting my wood deck, it started turning yellow as you could see in the pictures. Awful product.

Only use on pine
This product is incredibly uniform. It's labelled as a "clear, transparent" sealer. If you appreciate the beauty of cedar, this is not for you. Even after a LOT of sanding (belt and palm)... it seems to have deeply stained the underlying wood. I'm incredibly unhappy with this product. In the image, you can see the Behr on the left, Thompsons' Water Seal in the middle, and untreated cedar on the right.

NOT CLEAR! It is an opaque butterscotch color
OMG, I could not believe they call this "clear". I put this product on my log cabin and it is definitely more of an orange STAIN. I thought it must have been a mismarked batch, so I called customer service. They said the UV chemicals they use give it this color and it will be the same on all of their UV protected products! Why call it CLEAR then???!!!

A good example of this is how Jell-O is available in a variety of colors but is completely clear. There are other products on the market that are clear and colorless but will most likely not have UV protection included, as that is typically what gives a clear stain color. Looks great, but definitely not a clear finish.
Although this product is labeled as a clear finish, it actually produced a beautiful caramel color on the pressure treated lumber we used for our deck. Really happy with the look and ease of application.

Product looks great. I cleaned and sealed 2 decks which hadn’t been maintained for many years. Key is to clean wood thoroughly and apply 2 coats. We first rolled on, then back brushed, working a 3’x2’ area at a time.

We made sure to properly clean and prep our 2 year old fence and we are very pleased with the results, now water runs right off. I saw other reviews that said their fence came out too yellow, well it is yellow pine, but I think it is more of a golden hue. Looks like new!

Peeled after one year. Do not buy!
Bought ths 2 years ago to use on my brand new deck. I followed the directions and after 1 winter it started to peel a bit. After the second winter a lot of the stain peeled off especially in high traffic and direct sun. It should not say that it lasts 4 years on decks. Only 1 year.

NOT CLEAR AT ALL
This stuff foams like no tomorrow, it’s not clear, and it is still so sticky (it’s been drying for 3 days!). I’m a residential painter and I’ve used many different products for exterior clear sealer and this is NOT it. You’re better off ordering Spar Urethane in a water base. The false advertising with this product is absolutely ridiculous. I’m disappointed this is the orange result my clients got!

NOT CLEAR. Makes your wood YELLOW
This product is not clear. Unfortunately my husband picked out and purchased this product without me approving it and had already stained half the boards we were gonna use to put up a fence.
Needless to say, I was LIVID. To see that the wood was yellow…. So infuriating especially when the product is marketed as “clear”
It also was very runny. My husband used as directed and there still were tons of drips that we had to scrub after it had dried.
This product is garbage.

This stuff is great used it a few years ago on the front porch it lasted unfortunately the weather and wear n tare I am using it again but it’s great. Also used it on a fence in the back yard got lots of compliments on how great it looks awesome Bear product to use

For red use transparent
For RED use TRANSPARENT!
I made the mistake of getting semi-transparent and it came out orange.
So I got transparent because a review said to get transparent for red. It came out red.

Way too red, not transparent
Looks like they updated the pic to match since 2021. Prepped my weathered fence with their cleaner and power washed it. Treated pine looked brand new. Shocked at the color, but hoped it would tone down when it dried. I stayed RED red. Swatches looked reddish brown. More of a semi-transparent also. Gonna have to strip it and restain. Quality seems decent. The least Behr could do is supply me with some stripper. They were like, yeah that sucks, buy more of our product so you can remove it.

Transparent-Clear Tone 500-N
I've been using this product (Transparent-Clear Tone 500-N) on my wood sided home for 15+ years and just used in on my 3 year old brown-treated wood deck. Great results! Followed the thin coat recommendations and image is after first thin coat. Penetrating oil was just too dark and this water-based product darked the wood just right.

Label says Clear but it is not
I asked the Home Depot associate which would be the best product to waterproof a painted wooden sign. He recommended this product. When I opened the can I was surprised to see that it is not clear, nor does it look transparent. I hoped that it would dry clear but it did not. My handpainted beach scene now has a beige tint to it. My handpainted white letters are now an off-white color. After spending two days to handpaint this sign, i am angry and disappointed in this product.

I'd always used Spar Varnish or a Polyurethane for the redwood fence I built, but the local HD salesman suggested I try this product. Couldn't be happier. Love the lack of sheen and how the color darkened and got much richer in depth.

Not a good product
Worst waterproofing out there. New deck boards in 2019, cleaned and prepped the deck as recommended and less than one year it’s peeling. Horrible product.

Not Clear!! Not Happy!!
This product is NOT CLEAR! I just replaced all the planks on my deck last year to have that new look feel and this clear transparent finish messed it up. Behr should not be allowed to use the words "Clear" and "Transparent" on their container....it's misleading and untrue. I have read that the color is part of the UV protection and if no then you should not be labeling this as clear. Beware!

Horrible YELLOW Stain
This product is NOT CLEAR- it is YELLOW. In past years, I purchased another brand that was actually crystal clear deck stain- and it was crystal clear...easy to roll on, didnt need to worry about drips, never had any issues with peeling...great product. Bought the Behr 2 wks ago based on the HD sales reps recommendation and should have known better. Staining the deck today: a. IT IS YELLOW, b. BECAUSE IT IS YELLOW- APPLYING THIS STAIN IS LIKE USING YELLOW PAINT- ANY DRIPS APPEAR AS DARK YELLOW SPOTS WHEN USING SPRAY APPLICATION. We initially thought it might dry "clear"- yeah, NOPE. If you want a natural looking clear finish on your wood- spend the etra money and buy another brand.
