Is this the correct color?
Not sure if this was mixed incorrectly or if it dries darker. It's salmon color and I hate it. If i supply the mixing code, can you tell me if it's the correct mixture? I'm putting this project on hold til I get a response

Hello wolfter, we appreciate your feedback. Sorry to hear your coating's finishing color didn't turn out as expected; that is not the experience we want our customers to have with our products. To verify that your color was mixed correctly, we’d suggest checking that the physical color swatch matches the color dab on your can's lid. If the colors match, the coating was properly mixed, and the color is correct. In cases like this, the best solution would be to recoat in a different color. If the swatch doesn’t match the dab on your can’s lid, the color was incorrectly mixed, and we’d suggest recoating with new product tinted to the correct color. Please keep in mind that different lighting will affect how a color looks and that our online color palette display may vary slightly from the actual colors due to variances in monitor settings. Customer satisfaction is important to us. Please feel free to reach out to our Customer Care team directly with any questions you may have or for assistance. Have a great day. -Joanna Behr

1 Bucket handle came off the first time it was used 2 Paint is so thick it did not cover concrete pavers well using a half inch roller. Would require at least two coats plus touch up with a brush. 3 Color is a very poor match to that shown on the web page.

Sadly it didn’t work for me
Sadly it didn’t work for me. After one year it peeled in sheets right off the wood. I prepped pressure treated deck which was 18 years old bleached it scrubbed it and sanded it. Even so the paint did not stick. It goes on very thick and it’s a very thick sheet at the end. But because it doesn’t stick it just peels off. I’m very sad because the rest of the deck is painted with regular deck and Post Behr paint And it is truly outstanding. Stick with the $30 a gallon deck paint and you’ll be fine. This is a waste of your time and money.

Hi Smithcover - Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the peeling on your deck after only a year. To fix the finish, we recommend removing the loose DeckOver, preparing the surface with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner, then applying 2 new coats to the whole area for a uniform finish. If the old wood is still in good condition, our solid stain may be a better alternative for your project. For further assistance with this, please feel free to reach out to us directly. We'd be happy to help! - Sara Behr

After 2 summers
This product does not have staying power. Initially, the product worked as we had hoped. Now, after 2 summers, the product is peeling. The worst part is the wood is now significantly more damaged than before we used the product. So, the product covered, for a while, but it did not protect our deck. We did the prep work as directed. The more sunlight on the deck = more damage to product and deck.

Hi Dissatisfied,

Thank you for reviewing DeckOver. I'm very sorry to hear about your experience, as it certainly isn't what we want our customers to go through.

The loose DeckOver can be removed with a floor sander/grinder. Home Depot usually has great rental options available. After removing the loose areas and cleaning with Behr All-in-One Wood Cleaner, the surface should dry for at least 24 hours in dry weather before recoating. If there are DeckOver remnants left, they can be topcoated.

I encourage you to contact Behr directly for further assistance with this matter. We'd love to help!

Kindest regards,

Doris Behr

Color not correct
We selected the color ATLANTIC because we were looking for a navy blue color and liked the look of it. We got home and started painting and it seemed light but thought it would darken when it dried. Well the further we got, we realized we ended up with a periwinkle color. We were on a time crunch and Didn’t have time to go back and get new paint. The quality seems good. It’s thick and takes awhile to apply thoroughly. We ran out of paint after the first coat and since the color wasn’t right, we can’t even get more paint to add another coat without the color not matching. I am hopeful that one coat will be enough!

THE most horrible product EVER!
This is like painting with TAR. After sanding my 12 year old rails smooth I started to apply with a brush, no good. Move to a 3" foam roller, better but like putting frosting on a cake. Oh by the way I have been a painter for over 40 years. If you are ready to ruin your wood then go ahead and buy this product but if you are like me and want perfection in a paint job DO NOT BUY THIS product. I am taking this back in exchange for regular exterior house paint. Check out the pictures below.

Hi BP,

Thank you for reviewing Textured DeckOver. I'm sorry to hear about your experience, as it certainly isn't what we want our customers to go through. The consistency should be thick, but not difficult to work with.

As it turns out, we do not recommend foam rollers with our products. Textured DeckOver can be applied with a high-quality nylon/polyester brush and a synthetic nap roller.

Please contact Behr directly for further assistance with this matter. We'd love to find a way to help!

Kindest regards,

Not great-here is why
So we wanted to be a little crafty and chose to do two tones kind of mimicking a iron rail deck. We chose the textured option thinking it would prevent the deck from being slippery. Initially the paint is so heavy and thick which it's meant to be to cover up old dry wood, but because of that it goes on like cake batter it dries very quickly.we ended up needing four additional cans then our square footage calculated.my biggest problem with it is that for some reason it holds in dirt. Here I am with this nicely painted deck that took an extra two days because of unforeseen paint buying, and I feel it's mediocre at best. I spent 2 hours cleaning up scrubbing it trying to remove dirt I had from a couple plant pots every time we walk to the yard or a dog walks on it or anything or anyone the dirt gets stuck on the deck and does not easily come off.I would opt for something a little different if I did it again. If you have any old deck that's very dry just be careful about how you calculate it you'll definitely need more than you was expected unless you water it down which defeats the purpose of the product. If it is very warm outside don't use too much paint at once because you will lose 1/3 of it to drying out.For places you couldn't like behind stairs, I ended up throwing some vodka in the dry cans and finishing them that way lol. I was not about to spend another $35 on MORE no no no. It's not that I don't recommend it at all or that I do even I guess I would say is there a difference between the smooth and the textured that holds the dirt is that why it holds the dirt if so definitely get the smooth unless you love stains of dirt on your nice deck.I didn't expect perfect because it is a very old deck and I'm even fine with some of the flaws from not completely sanding it but this is supposed to prevent all that hard work so if you're going to work so hard to do that you can definitely find a better price product to get these results.

Buyers beware
We purchased sagebrush green color, loved the color. We prepped the deck and process of painting was fairly easy, we were very pleased with the end result...at first! Our deck wasn’t painted more then a week when we noticed areas that were completely peeling off and bubbling. The paint on railings that are exposed to sunlight a lot started bubbling. An exterior paint for decks should hold up better under hot temperatures! Looks like next spring we will be stripping this paint and going with a better product!

Great product
We tried several different products before we found deck over. This is our fourth year having it on and we are very impressed with its longevity. We have an active dog that runs on it and my husband shovels it in the winter. Even so, just a few patch areas and we are good to go for another year. A word of caution, follow the directions exactly as they are written for a good outcome, it makes all the difference!

Hi Kate, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that the coating peeled so soon. This is not the way we expect our products to perform, and I understand your disappointment. I recommend removing the loose coating off, cleaning (or etching if concrete), and touching up or recoating as necessary. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback.
