the water beaded up and hopefully it will last the 10 years

I used twelve 5-gallon of this product 12 years ago on the exterior walls of my brick and stone home. Seeing a slight degradation finally on some weathered parts but 95% is still good for years. Kept the brick and mortar clean and pristine even in shady areas. I decided to use the same Protector and Waterproofer from Behr currently because of my past experience. As is, I’m a big fan of Behr paints and this product makes their reputation even better. Highly recommended for sure!

Very impressive coating
I usually don’t write reviews, but just finished re-grouting my patio. This time I decided to use this waterproofing sealer. It was super easy going on with no trouble. It really did not look any different afterwards, and I thought it may have been a waste, but then we had a heavy rain and I noted the water was not soaking into the bricks. Then I was out fixing hose and some water came out and I saw how it beaded off and did not soak in. See my photos, the last one was the heavy rain.

    Great concrete sealer for waterproofing
Water and bird poop used to just seep into my concrete. After one layer of the concrete sealer, water just beads on top of the concrete. Bird poop is easier to wash out. Four starts only because it's very difficult to apply. You'll need two people. Some places it just pools and a roller is of no help. You'll need a rag to wipe out puddles before it dries. The viscosity is difficult.

I bought 19 Premium 1gal Behr Natural Protector and Waterproofer from the same store and within a few days to seal the concrete around the pool and my patio. I did this in the past using the same product with no issue. This time I am a bit disappointed. As I went through the product, my concrete and patio have now different tone. My conclusion is that the product has changed and is not consistant from one constrained to the other. I am not sure I will buy this product again. I spent hours sealing the concrete and I cannot afford to do it over. What are you going g to do about this? Thanks.

      Good so far
I used this product to seal a concrete patio that was resurfaced with Rapid Set Cement All with a broom finish applied 24 hours prior. Most importantly, I wanted a penetrating sealer that would help prevent against deicer damage and spalling. It rained the day after the sealer was applied and the water is beading up nicely. So far, so good. My understanding is the beading behavior will go away but the protection from sealing up the internal capillaries will last up to ten years.

        Not impressed
I applied this to half of my driveway and used Valspar for the other half as a comparison. This product does not make the water bead up at all. I applied per instructions after pressure washing my driveway. I’m very disappointed. The Valspar equivalent made the water bead up and appears to be a much better product. Left side of the photo is Behr and the right side is Valspar.

water really beads up but what happens when it freezes?
Applied this waterproofed to a driveway that has a brushed finish. Water really beads up but what happens if there's a mild winter day that melts some snow and then the beads freeze overnight?

Beads up and good after 3 months
Love how the water beads up. Looking forward to seeing if it lasts as long as expected but so far so good. I don’t believe it went as far as expected when spraying it out but still happy overall.

            Worked for me
Have a lot of new concrete that needed sealing. Pressure washed and waited 24 hrs. While applying it, I was worried because it was dark and looking uneven. However as it cured, all was good. No signs of the product whatsoever and after watering some plants there was water leaking but it beaded up like mercury. Worth the price.

              Still works, 1 yr later
I applied last year. I was only able to do half my driveway before running out of product. This photo was taken this year. Initially the rain would bead up and not penetrrate into concrete. That's worn off but the clean color of driveway still holding up. I think this is a good product.

                Makes puddles everywhere
So disappointed with this stuff. Makes puddles everywhere that take forever to evaporate. The first rain after we applied it our deck was drenched with puddles for days after the rain. Street and everything else was long dry. Please tell me these puddles aren’t going to last for 10 years?

Hi Sam, Thank you for the review. Sorry to hear that you are having puddles that take forever to evaporate. The Natural Protector & Waterproofer isn't allowing the water to penetrate the concrete to help protect it. The puddling should subside as the product begins to wear. In the meantime, I'd recommend sweeping any standing water so it can evaporate. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Contractor Recommended.
I was not sure at first because it's from Home Depot. And, as a contractor I have always used other high quality brands. But let me tell you, I have used it on several occasions to seal high quality Travertine, and I guarantee it. If someone has not had good results it is due to poor preparation.

                    Awesome Results
Consistency of milk, sprayed on. Did not change the color. When dried, did not look sealed, but after water sprinklers sprayed it, it all beaded up like mercury on a table. Very pleased.

Great for Sealing New Concrete Planters!
I recently purchased two new concrete planters for the front of my home. It was recommended that I seal the planters to prolong their life and to keep the chemicals and additives used make the concrete from seeping into the soil over time and hurting my plants. After some research I chose the Behr Premium Natural Protector and Waterproofer. I chose this over the Low-Lustre and Wet-Look versions because I didn’t want any sheen. I liked the natural look of my planters the way they were. I just wanted to add some protection. This product went on wet and dried perfectly bringing the planters back to the way they looked when I bought them. I can’t attest to some of the complaints of white residue being left behind because my planters were designed already with that look. I did not notice any more white than what previously existed. After allowing to dry for 36 hours I sprinkled some water on them and the water bead right down the inside and outside. None of the water soaked into the planter! For my purposes, this product worked as promised with no issues. It went on easily with a nylon paint brush and cleaned off my hands and brushes with soap and water. Note: Use a drop cloth for this type of a project. Also wear old clothes and eye protection as mist created from brushing can get on your face and areas around you. I am very happy with the end result. As to the 10 year guarantee, we shall see. At this price I may reseal my planters in five years just to be safe. Oh, in case anyone is wondering, I used about a half gallon for two large planters on the inside and outside (approx. 22” wide by 30” tall). I know it seems like a lot of product to use, but the planters had a lot of textured surfaces and design which soaked up a lot of the sealant. I have no regrets and highly recommend this product.

This stuff is INSANE. It went on really thin and took two bottles to seal 200 square feet of concrete, which seemed like a lot of product when one bottle was supposed to have a 250-ft. spread rate. Plus, it dried super fast. Because of that, I thought it wasn't going to work. But, lo and behold, I was moving a water-filled umbrella base onto the patio. Water spilled out and, I kid you not, the water formed a bubble that just sat on top of the concrete. It was like a science experiment. Totally blew my mind. When this stuff says it's a protector and waterproofer, it is NOT lying.

Hi jb, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the blotchy appearance. This is not normal, and I understand your frustration. I recommend allowing the surface to dry for 24 hours, and cleaning it with soap and water. If this does not help, it will be best to remove the coating. Purchased this sealer to treat my concrete patio and paving stone walkway which have been requiring power washing every 2 years due discoloration from dirt and algae caused by water absorption into the surfaces. I applied this product using a hand pump pressure sprayer and going over any uneven area with an outdoor broom. The benefits have been obvious rom day one. Water no longer is absorbed but forms drops on the surface until it dries in the air. I cannot attest to the longevity of the application, but if it holds up even close to the 10 year warranty, I will be happy. The only thing to be aware of is that in my experience, the stated 150 sq. ft. / gallon coverage is overly optimistic. It may be possible with a power sprayer that can better evenly coat surfaces, but I used 6 gallons and got closer to 200 sq. ft.

I might have given this five stars except for a couple of things...everything went great until I poured out the last gallon and a half into my pump sprayer, and found I had not been able to stir up all the sediment that had settled to the bottom. Hopefully it will still perform to my original expectations (so far, so good). I followed the directions and etched the concrete with Muriatic acid first, and the pump sprayer worked really well...even the solids near the end didn't plug it up badly, so coverage was good. I heeded the temperatures and the sealer really dried quickly with the concrete sitting in the hot sun all day. I was able to walk on it within a couple of hours. In less sunny (and cooler concrete) conditions, when I put another gallon on to finish the job, it took a little longer to cure, but still not much longer. I did get a little white show up, and that was especially noticeable where the sealer ran on the slope of the drive...had I broomed it quickly it probably wouldn't have been noticeable. That would be an advantage to applying it under cooler conditions. I was looking for a sealer that would obviously work because the concrete would look dry even under a heavy rain and that's what I have (and it looks cool having the water bead up). And 'm hoping the white runs will get worn off without affecting the seal. The etched texture is NOT slippery under wet conditions. My advice is if you order this online take to to Home Depot and have them shake it for you before putting it down, and follow the directions. I have a feeling a lot of the issues people have noted can be attributed to not doing that.

I have cancelled this online order and bought from store. Applied on to my driveway and other concrete surfaces after cleaning the surfaces using concrete cleaners. It does work well and it did reflect all water as expected. Will watch it on another rainy day and see how it performs. For now 5 stars.

Instructions clearly state, “Recoat: 24 hours.” Well guess what, when you do that you wind up painting whatever it is you use this stuff on WHITE - what A Nightmare! We never should have gotten away from using poly-urethane -based “Lasti-Seal” (which is clear, Clear, CLEAR!) but, this stuff was half the price and so now we are paying for it, BigTime. What A Nightmare!

We recommend applying no more than 1 coat of our Protector & Waterproofer to your project. To fix the finish, it's best to remove the current waterproofer with a paint stripper before applying a new coat. So we can assist you with this further, please feel free to reach out to us directly. Best applied with broom as it tends to clog up spray tip or filter. Easy to work on concrete with broom to cover all surface. As it forms moisture barrier on concrete surface, pools up so then you can further spread the pool for more coverage. Repels water for now but the test is in a couple of years. Will it repel water then and inhibit related mold growth? Time will tell. Leaves light chalky surface which is easily washed off with water after surface dries.

I have a large aggregate cement driveway. I try to seal it every couple of years to keep it from cracking. In the past, I have used a product that I got from a local stone dealer that cost me $90 per gallon and it was horrible to clean up afterwards requiring paint thinner. It always cobbed up my sprayer, too. For my drive, I need 7 gallons, so this was a pretty expensive product and I had to do it every year. Then I ran across this waterproofer - wow! not nearly as expensive and it cleans up with water. So, I tried it and it works great. Doesn't clog my sprayer and easy to clean the sprayer and my hands when done with just a little soap and water. After applying, it took only about 5 hours for me to be able to walk on. Even though the instructions say to let dry 24-48 hours, we were driving on it after 8 hours. And the first rain that came after applying this beaded up beautifully. So, it definitely does the job. I applied this 2 years ago and worked great for the 2 years, so I purchased again this year and assume I will get another 2 years out of it. We live in Northern Illinois where Winters can get severe, so our drive is a good test for this. The drive is 22 years old. The price is reasonable and it does the job well. Plus cleanup is very easy.

I'm probably being premature to rate this, but it went on very well and looks great. We used an airless sprayer and put on two coats (in one day - I always treat instructions as suggestions). I measured and figured 10 gallons was plenty, but we used 20, so it really sopped up the sealant. The color is a little darker than it was, but the brick-work isn't the least bit slippery and yet it feels 'cleaner'. This is the second time for sealing the sidewalks/driveway/patio, and the first time we also used a Behr product (that one was acrylic sealer which came in 5 gallon buckets). It worked well and lasted several years, but we got busy and let things slide for too long (the bricks started getting mold and were otherwise hard to keep clean). We power washed twice, and then let it sit for 5 hot and dry days.

I was really amazed with this product. I had a year old concrete patio I wanted to seal underneath a deck, because the concrete was constantly getting dirty/moldy. I pressure washed and then scrubbed the tougher spots with a bleach/baking soda mixture I found on the Interwebs. I let the entire patio dry for a good day and half, with no rain in the forecast. I then used a pump sprayer to coat the concrete, making sure not to overcoat. I let it dry for 24 hours. I was worried it wouldn't work, as the concrete was not glossy at all. In fact, it didn't look any different from when I finished cleaning it. I sprayed a hose - and the water completely beaded up, rolling off the patio in streams! The only parts that didn't bead up were some oil/grease spots where my grill sits that I couldn't remove. If you want water to completely bead up on your patio, this is your product.
