While updating the playroom and living room with a better comfort feel, we looked to using these mantel shelves below the mounted TVs and reduce the clutter. The mantels are taller than thought, giving a bulkier look to the walls. The solid wood is beautiful, with it's natural imperfections adding to the feel. The semi transparent paint allows the look of the wood to come through without the hunting lodge feel. The mantels come with mounting hardware and are notched accordingly for ease of mounting. It is made to fasten directly into the studs of the wall as it does carry some weight.

Solid construction and nice coloration. The neutral gray stain gives it an aged look and the natural knots add even more character. It is very easy to mount with an inexpensive stud finder and a hand drill. Perfect in size to be used over the fireplace or as casual wall decor, and not extremely heavy. I especially like the mantel mounted behind the couch for the extra interest it lends to the room and the convenience of being able to interchange art work without a lot of effort or new holes. Love it.

This mantel is wood but hollow so it is not too heavy to mount. The grey is modern and lovely. We used it as a shelf for our sons' toys because it is a great size. It comes supplied with a French cleat that makes installation simple. The only downside is that it requires a drill for installation. You will have to drill the holes into the cleat that goes on the wall because it does not come pre-drilled. It comes with all the screws needed to mount. All solid wood to include the cleats.

The photos I took don't do the color of this grey shelf justice: It is a true medium grey, but is altered by the light and colors in its environment. Put in bright light and it appears on the silvery side, put it in low light and it appears dark grey. In my opinion this is a good feature as it will fit in no matter what color ones walls and decor.
The planks have character, knots and a wee bit of distress.
Another plus, if one decides they are not content with the color, this shelf can easily be stripped and recolored.
On first inspection I became concerned that the attached board to hang shelf on wall was glued on without screws: Look close and one will find that the shelf is secured with screws at every plank and attachment boards.
Well built shelf indeed!

This Bjorn Woodworks rustic mantel shelf is a great option for updating an outdated fireplace. It is made of real knotty alder, not pressed or manufactured wood product. It is nicely finished with a smooth splinter free sanded surface. Then it is stained in a grey/ brown color calling it driftwood and sealed with a satin finish. It is a quality job with no complaints whatsoever. The knotty alder is known for its uneven knots for a rustic look.
Installation is simple with several steps involved to hang correctly. An included cleat is what the mantel hangs on and supports it. The cleat needs to be leveled and screwed into four studs to hold the almost forty pound weight. There are seven screws included- all two and a half inches. Then the mantel is hung from the cleat and three screws are used on the top back surface of the mantel into the cleat.
This is a five foot long mantel with a deep nine and three quarter inch top shelf and a six inch drop.
They also come in a brown shipwreck finish and both come in five and six foot lengths. Any of these can be used as a free floating wall shelf.

When we moved into our home, I immediately added replacing the mantels to the never-ending to-do list. Instead of building our own DIY farmhouse mantel and distressing it, I was so happy to find this ready made cap shelf mantel.
The product is sturdy and well made. The wood has character and even has knotholes and blemishes.
What I didn't like about the product is the finish on the wood itself. While the product is made of real wood, the sort of glossy stain and color of the mantel gives it almost a faux-veneer look.
Still, this product is sturdy and high quality and a huge step up from our current mantel situation. Be sure to view the pictures of the finish and make sure that you're happy with the look and feel for your space. Good for farmhouse or industrial decor.

This wood mantel is well constructed and pretty solid because of the thickness of the wood that it is made of. Attaching it to a fireplace or as a wall shelf is simple with the board that is first attached to the wall. Then the mantel slips over it. I wasn't too impressed with the quality of the Knotty Alder wood because of the knots, cracks and dents in it that are shown in the included pictures. It has been designed to have a driftwood gray color.

The 60 inch by 6 inch Driftwood Wood Cap-Shelf Mantel was very easy to install. It comes with most of the required hardware, although I found the 1 1/4” screws were too short to drill through the shelf top into the cleat, which is the final step. The instructions said they were suppose to be 1 1/2”, which may have worked, but I purchased two inch screws to make certain they griped the cleat. The color is good, the finish is okay, it does replicate driftwood. My only disappointment is the burned out knot in the front. It was poorly done to no doubt add “authenticity”, but just looks like bad craftsmanship. I was thinking about buying a second one since I’m using it as a shelf and not a mantle, but the 6” width may look too blocky, even with my high ceilings. I love the 10” depth, it allows for decorative plates, Knick-knacks and a book or two. Overall, pretty well made and as I mentioned the color is good. Since I couldn’t build the shelf myself, I’m happy with it.
