Customer Reviews for BrassCraft 1/4 in. x 20 ft. Pistol-Grip Drum Auger

My husband was ready to call in the plumber but knowing how high that bill would have been, I told him it wouldn't hurt to give this a try. This inexpensive item saved us from a very large plumber bill. Our floor drain in the small room with the water heater, located in the basement started backing up and our toilets stopped working. We have 3 kids so this had to be fixed immediately. I think it cleared the blockage on the first try but I sent it down the floor drain 3xs just to make sure. Everything is back to normal.

This product's cheap, delicate and brittle plastic parts are its downfall. In my case, the neck extension (I will call it), the point where the locking device clamps on, broke, likely after a drop while the locking device was still locked onto the neck extension. The neck extension is a part of the auger body. The broken piece on mine is stuck inside the locking mechanism. If the locking mechanism cannot lock onto the neck of the auger, the unit is useless. Turning the handle will not create a swirling motion to break up a clog, or "snake" through a trap or elbow, and the unit cannot be pulled back & forth to create additional agitation of debris in the drain line. The extra weight of the locking mechanism on the neck extension, along with the leverage generated by its being attached the neck extension (created by artificially extending the length of the neck) made a break inevitable. Not only inevitable, but easily done. It made sense to me to lock onto the neck extension, which is located on the auger housing by the way, in order to store the product such that the coil did not come out of the drum and flop all over the place. After all, the cable is 20' long. In fact, I believe this product is sold with the locking mechanism clamped to the neck extension for the reason I cite - assuring the cable does not flop all over the place. Home Depot does not want 1/4" drain cables all over its store floor creating a tripping hazard or giving an unsightly appearance. I am really disappointed with this product. It worked well once, but because of the flimsy materials and lack of thought that went into its design, it is nothing but trash. A waste of $20.

The auger was easy to extend into pipe and the crank handle made quick work of the blockage.

It works excellent in cleaning out my drain in the shower. I have not tried it anywhere else.

It broke on second use

It did the job. I have a long evaporation drain line from my air handler for my AC/Furnace which runs about 15 feet along the wall in my garage and out through a sidewall. It's 3/4" PVC and has 4 90 deg. bends, and it was stopped up with gunk. I was able to clear it with this auger. It was not easy, but it probably worked as well as anything else would have. I got the job done with it.

Worked very well on a minor stoppage. Well made and strong housing.

Did not snack thru and binded up the spring at places, so bad, I just threw it in trash.

Would not work for the clog I had. I tried it so I just kept it. The product seems like it is durable.

It twisted and then folded while inside the pipe. Had to call out plumber to clear drain.Too flimsy and would not purchase again.

Fixed the problem in less than 60 seconds. Easy to use.

Easy to use with the snap clamp - even for a beginner!! got the drain clear.

This snake is the worest I have ever used don't waste your money

Does not automatically feed. What did I expect for 15 bucks?

I really like the pistol grip drain snake, it works well for the toilet clogs and slow drains. Much easier to work and handle than using a regular snake

did everything I expected from this product

I fed all 18ft down the drain and it unclogged the sink. Then, when I went got rewind it, the hand piece broke so down I have 18ft of coil down in my sink. There's nothing on the BrassCraft site about how to deal with this or anything else for that matter
