Easy install as a direct replacement for an older unit....
Easy install as a direct replacement for an older unit. The light really helps especially if wired to turn on with the fan. It makes for an easy one-switch operation.

It works, yes. Not for the average DIYer but is probably just fine for the contractor. This thing does not have everything you need for an installation. No cable clamp, which was easy enough to find at a hardware store but not at a grocery store. No hanger bars, which could not be found at a hardware store. No wire nuts, which is easy to find. No mounting hardware (i.e. screws). Also you will need 4" vent hose and vent hose tape, which can be found at the hardware store. There is no flange to dress the hole in the ceiling. I was unable to fit a regular-size bulb in it and had to use one of the smaller ceiling-fan type bulbs. Instructions were brief; it does not tell you what size the knockouts are. There is no provision on the housing for connecting the ground wire. If you cut a tight hole and allow this thing to touch your ceiling, it will vibrate the ceiling. The light bulb will also experience vibration; I'm hoping the "fan light" type bulb can handle it.
They need to at least put on the box what other items to we need to obtain to complete the installation, then put those things in the same area so we can grab everything we need.

We appreciate your feedback on the 769RL fan and light unit. Our ventilation fans do not come with the electrical or ducting components needed for the installation.
The hanger bars are not included with the purchase of the fan, but are available separately if needed. We do have this information available on our website and in the specification sheet/installation instructions.
The installation instructions do state to have the electrical wiring done by a qualified person, so if you are having trouble with the wiring (ground wire question), we would recommend contacting an electrician or our Technical Support directly. We do not include any of the ducting or termination caps. The length of ducting, type, and if elbows are needed are all specific to each installation.
With any of our ventilation fans, the housing should be flush with the finished ceiling. You should be able to get a butter knife between the housing and the ceiling material. You will have vibration if the housing is touching the drywall.
A regular incandescent light bulb will fit in this unit and is what is recommended. Using an LED does not void the warranty, but it may not fit correctly as most are not the same size.
Unfortunately, where the items needed to install the fan are located in the store is out of our control, but we are sure any Home Depot store associate would be happy to help you find the items you need.

Poor longevity
I’ve had 2 of these fans. The first one lasted 2 weeks, I thought it was a defective fan so I took it back and got a replacement. It has lasted just over 1 year and it now doing the same thing as the last fan, gradually getting louder. Also the back flow flap doesn’t close all the way and causes cold or hot air to seep into the house. My father in law has the 50 CFM version of this fan that is made in the USA and has had zero issues with it(this not made in the US). I guess I’ll look at that one or another brand.

It is the job of the wall or roof cap to stop the air from returning back through the duct work. If you do not have a wall or roof cap with a built-in back draft damper, you may want to consider one. I replaced a 60 cfm fan with this model because...
I replaced a 60 cfm fan with this model because the fan motor and light fit into the existing mounting box. Other boxes were larger and I didn't want to have to go into the attic to fit a new box. I would have preferred a 90 cfm or larger, but it is what it is.
