First I bought a Broan BP27 replacement motor elsewhere. The installation instructions sheet and the Broan web site say it's compatible with my Broan ventilator 678-B. The BP27 motor shaft is 1-11/16", 1/4" longer than my original. It butts up so tightly against the fan housing ceiling that the shaft won't turn. Contacted Broan, agent said the correct replacement is this part#, S97012038, available at Home Depot. I ordered it. It arrived open box, no instruction sheet. The shaft length on this item is also 1/4" longer than my original. I didn't bother trying to install it. I'm going to return it. Mine is not the only review that notes the S97012038 motor shaft is too long. Broan needs to correct their product information.
This may be a fine motor, but it is NOT compatible with 678-B.
After all this I did a very careful inspection of my original motor and found nearly invisible faded print on the motor: "MODEL 57F2M". Broan customer service, before you write me a dismissive reply, do your homework, and provide the real 'correct' replacement, if there is one. At this point I'm considering replacing the whole unit with a another brand.

Unfortunately, there is no alternate Motor or Assembly recommended for the Broan 678-B. The 57F2M you have provided from your motor is showing in our system as used in a Range Hood. Once I watched the youtube video on how to replace my old faulty motor and fan with the new one it was a 5 minute job to complete. The new motor and fan were an exact match to my older burned out unit. There is on tab to compress on the fan unit and the whole unit slips easily out of the vent fan box that is installed in the attic.
Perfect replacement part. Quieter than the old one.

Had a no name bath exhaust fan. So, I purchase the Broan replacement fan. I had to shorten the stem and reverse the direction of the fan blades to counter clockwise. Learned about this from Home Depot website reviews. Noticed the humidity in our small bathroom was alot better. It was put in a week ago and I am happy even though I had a little extra effort to install

***Don't toss out your old fan - you will need some of the parts****
Waited years until my old fan motors from 1974 finally burned out but like most junk this old from a manufactured home everything is hard to find and replace. But not this fan. Smaller and better than the original. Reasonably quiet too. The fan blades that it came with didn't make any sense. They weren't slanted so they didn't create an updraft. I'm not quite a senior citizen (44) but I still had to do some mild adjustments to this fan. Glad I didn't throw out my old fan since it didn't come with a bracket. I just used the old fan's. I used the old fans metal blade but it sounded like it was too heavy and over-working the motor. So I put the new one back on but had to bend the blades by putting a weight on them for a day in the hot sun. It actually worked. Great replacement I'm pleased. Now all I need is a cover to fit over the ugly hole in the ceiling where the fan is.

This replacement motor and fan fit perfectly. Of course, when I had my bathroom renovated the old one was the only thing I didn't replace since it was still working. Since I'm not at all mechanically inclined and a 68 yr old woman, I was afraid I would have to call someone to install it. Instead I went to Youtube and followed their directions. I'm not saying it was easy for me, especially working over my head, but I finally figured it out. I'm very pleased with it, works great!
Cheap and Easy Fan Replacement

Super simple replacement motor and fan for the original unit that, after 14 years, died in our master bathroom. The hardest part was getting the latter into the bathroom. I wish this was a product that was stocked at my local store instead of needing to order it online.
