Beautiful flooring
These floors were so beautiful only had a few bad pieces maybe like half a box. They feel soft to walk on and nice and shiny and perfect!!

Disappointing product due to poor manufacturing
This was our first time to use pre-finished hardwood flooring. We have always used unfinished flooring in the past. Numerous milling problems. Burn marks, waves in boards due to skips in planing process, missing tongues, cupped boards, end cuts not square, widths varying from 4 13/16”-5 1/16”, large majority of boards under 12”. We had to measure the widths and make piles of each width. It took us three three day weekends to install 560 sq ft and we are experienced!

    Hello Cill,

Thank you for contacting AHF Products.

We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced.  It is our aim to provide quality products and services to our customers and to meet your expectations.

Wood is a natural material containing distinctive differences in color and grain configurations. It is these differences, caused by nature, which create the warmth, beauty and originality of each hardwood floor.

The Plano collection is part of Bruce’s Natural Grade category which features a greater amount of visual character, such as wider color and grain variation, mineral streaks, knots and small holes as well as minor milling imperfections.

If you feel this is a manufacturing issue, you may go back to the flooring retailer where the material was purchased.  You would need your sales receipt, as it serves as your proof of purchase. The sales receipt is required by both the retailer and AHF Products.  If this is a warranted issue, the retailer will then be able to file a claim with AHF Products.

Again, we apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced.

Once again, thank you for contacting AHF Products. I hope this information is helpful. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again by e-mail at productsupport@ahfproducts.com or by phone at 1-866-243-2726, Monday through Friday from 9am to 4:30pm, EST.  Additional information may also be found at our technical website FloorExpert.com. Quality Control!
The good pieces of wood are great. Quality Control sucks on these cases though. Many pieces from the boxes have burn marks, are to thin and leave large gaps between pieces or they are just junky looking pieces with filler in them. The square footage per box may be what they give you, but you won't be using all of it. When you lay all the nice pieces and toss out the bad ones your floors will be awesome. It's just not the best when you are trashing brand new pieces right out of the box.

The worst flooring I have ever used
I was cautiously optimistic in giving this flooring a chance. Turns out it's honestly the worst flooring I have ever used. Out of 12 boxes, around half of all the flooring is basically cut-offs about 10" long. Minor annoyance, definitely not too bad. I then came to find that the boards vary not only in depth, but width also (by as much as ⅛"). I'm not going to sand down and refinish after and I can even deal with the slightly varying depths, but the variance of the widths, especially with a majority of the pieces being short, make this hands down the worst, most difficult, and most frustrating flooring I have ever used. Guess I gotta go break open every box and sort them by width. All of the pictures are of boards picked from one box.

        Good enough for DIY
At this price, I would not complain about this mixed lot of oak wood boards. I’m satisfied with the blend of colors and lengths. We did a DIY installation and only had to discard a few boards. We compensated for the uneven shapes by using them as cut pieces. After the 600 sq ft that we installed, we had less than a box left over. Then we decided the do another room because we were so pleased with the results.

These floors were a perfect match for our client's existing floors. We removed her carpet off her steps and we were able to match her current flooring with these. Would definitely recommend.

This particular flooring looks great installed and is offered at an attractive price point. Only complaint is that there is a lot of wasted product. Please figure on 15% - 20% overage when ordering. Also, we found the width can vary as much as 1/4." Overall, very satisfied. I have already installed in two bedrooms and will continue with a third bedroom when time permits. I really like the 5" width, looks great and time saving on installation!

Overall, the quality of these boards were fantastic. There was little inconsistency in width between boxes, very few with twist or bow and only a handful that had noticeable filler used in knots. I did come across a few that weren't square on the ends, but a simple cut on the table saw sled remedied them. Installation beyond the first and last rows went surprisingly fast since we ordered the 5" wide planks. Definitely recommend.

          Hi Kat,
Wood is the one flooring product that ages gracefully. We appreciate you taking the time to write your comments about our flooring product.
We apologize for any inconvenience, but because wood is a natural product, naturally occurring wood characteristics differ between each sample.
The display is just a small sampling of the hardwood product and while retailers always try to give the best representation of the product, there are such a wide range of natural characteristics that it would be extremely difficult to show everything in just a small display.
Also, differences between the pictures on the website and the actual product could vary due to variations in computer color displays and monitor settings.
Again, we apologize for any inconvenience and hope that this information is helpful. Have a great day. AHFProducts

Delivery was on time, and the boxes had very little damage. The flooring had the expected percentage of damaged boards. Overall we are very happy with this purchase.

I decided to install this gorgeous flooring all by hand without a floor nailer or power tools. It's been an enjoyment pressing the boards and blind nailing with a punch. I'd recommed the product. Only problem is that some boards came dysfunctional and had to cut some boards to take out the imperfections.

I purchased a total of 15 boxes of this flooring. After getting through the first 100 or so sq. feet I was reminded of problems others had with off size boards. That's a really huge problem, since they're about a millimeter under and you'll not know it until you're into the next row. Hours of extra work pulling up the garbage I couldn't identify before I put it in. Uneven gaps between rows must be corrected or it'll be obvious to anyone who looks that the job wasn't done correctly. Also, the colors were very wide in range from dark like walnut to bright red oak on others. There was also a good number of unusable boards-- I calculated that about 6.7% was just garbage.. spit, holes, missing tongues, etc. I still managed to put it all together, but any ideas that I was getting a bargain are long gone. It took twice as long to install as it should have. That said. I agree, Armstrong/Bruce's quality control is really bad. If I could do it again I wouldn't risk it and buy a better quality product.

The Plano Collection is part of Bruce’s Natural Grade category which features a greater amount of visual character such as wider color and grain variation, mineral streaks, knots and small holes as well as minor milling imperfections. My finished installation looks excellent, however I give the flooring a GOOD rating because of a few issues during installation. Keep in mind that this was my first hardwood flooring project, so these issues may be absolutely normal for any hardwood flooring brand. Some of the boards were really dark, looking almost like walnut, so I didn't use those. Some boards were full of worm holes, so I didn't use those either. Some people may like the rustic look of a bunch of holes, but its not for me. The boards are supposed to be 5" wide, however I ran across a lot of boards that were 5+1/16" wide. When one of these boards are end-to-end with a 5" board, this causes a wide crack between that row and the next row. The solution was to use a straight edge and a utility knife to shave a little off of the wide boards before installing the next row against it. After working thru these installation issues, the floor is beautiful. It has a really nice shine. I installed this flooring in my living room and hallway and am very happy with it.

I was looking at the different products and decided to go with Bruce Saddle Oak. I liked the natural look of this product. The quality of the product is very, very, very poor: the boards have a variable width, a lot of chipped ends, staining defects. My contractor who is installing the hardwood professionally have never experienced such a terrible quality product. He did not realize that those boards have a different width and it was very hard to notice the difference with a regular measuring tape. We bought digital meter and measured every single board after the completion of half of the project. The width was varying from 4.97 in up to 5.03 in. It is crazy! We calculated that we will use 26 boxes of hardwood for our project, but we ended up to buy 55 boxes in order to complete our project. Such a waste of the natural resources... I think Home Depot should not sell this product because now I am afraid to shop at this great DIY store where I bought other products without any issues . Thanks God for the great return policy at Home Depot.

We planned on doing our entire home (minus bathrooms) with hardwood. Bruce had a good reputation so we went with it. We ended up only doing about a quarter of our home due to the inferior milling of the wood. My wife emailed Bruce to complain but the company said that there milling process had some low percentage of allowable mistakes. The number they quoted did not match the mess that we purchased. The floor that we finished has many gaps (even with painstaking measuring and attempting to remove shorter width boards) and is very upsetting. Visitors may not notice, but the gaps are big enough to have moisture easily get down in the groves. The flooring was so lousy that I began to give up and allowed for the flaws just to get our living/kitchen/dining area completed (took about seven times as long as a normal install due to checking so many things before nailing and then finding out it was still outta whack). My neighbor, in charge of the install, does this stuff for a living and was beyond puzzled. I have evaluated the 3 1/2" boards from Bruce and much fewer were smaller width but many missing tongues and other issues. Once this job is complete, Bruce is not welcome in any future dwelling. I will spend a bit more to hopeful get improved product. ps I see Bruce has commented on other reviews that are poor and not so flattering, this does not help the consumer. If we were compensated for the time delay, big gaps and a generally poor product, I might say something else and it may ease my pain, but that would not change the fact that it is inferior. Some of the other reviews that are 1's are true.

Good Morning Randy. Thank you for taking the time to post a review of our product. I am sorry you had issues with your new flooring. The flooring you purchased was from the Plano collection. This product line is made exclusively for the Home Depot and is milled with much looser manufacturing specs than our other hardwood lines. The industry standard of 5% for milling defects does not apply to this flooring. The Plano Collection is part of Bruce’s Natural Grade category which features a greater amount of visual character such as wider color and grain variation, mineral streaks, knots and small holes as well as milling imperfections. All of these things are considered to be acceptable according to the manufacturing specifications we have for this flooring. Again I am sorry for the inconvenience you experienced. Armstrong

This flooring is easy to install and looks great. The only issue I had with this product is a few of the boards ( about 2 boards per box) are about a 1/8" narrower than others. If you don't catch this before you nail down the next row you will have an unsightly gap between your boards.

I ended up ordering Plano Oak Marsh 5 inch wide hardwood floor after doing much research and visiting many local stores. Initially, I was not sure between 3/4 inch and 5 inch width but looking at the marginal price difference I went with 5 inch of width. The quality and price is unmatched. I completed my entire home about 915 sq. ft. with this hardwood floor and end result is awesome!! I hired flooring professional to do the job and they were surprised with the quality too, especially at this price. I ordered 42 cases initially considering little waste but ended up returning 3 cases because, there wasn't any waste. Each case covers 23.5 sq. ft. and if you do a math to cover 915 sq. ft. you would require 38.93 cases which was exactly in my case. I am really impressed with the quality of each case. What I like the most with this hardwood is - It's Oak, hardness of the wood, it's light color, evenly distributed pieces in the box and quality product from Bruce. I would definitely recommend this product !!

We just spent $3,000 plus tax and while installing some of it (light in the area was not great) noticed a lot of small holes. Then noticed spots that had been cut (small chunks) out, some missing part of the tongue that is supposed to fit into the grooves. This product looks nothing like the picture above. The manager I spoke with was very nice and showed me their description that says it's supposed to be that way. We could have went to a discount store and bought real hardwood flooring that looked as good or better for half the cost. I went to the manufactures website and can't find the 5" in this but did find the smaller width, their overview and product detail does not have the same description as the website for Home Depot. If Home Depot would have had a sign with this description we would not have bought it. We had not shopped online so we totally missed the fact that it was made to look horrible on purpose. Too much time and money wasted but it's going down because it would cost too much to rip up what has already been put down and to start over. The picture I posted is just a few from 1 box.

Just this floor on entire first floor (900 fq ft) during a major renovation Really happy with finished product -- the wide plank is a nice look, and conveniently, it goes down twice as fast as strip! Seems tough as nails too. Yes there is some variation with darker and lighter boards, but overall I think that's desirable and part of a natural wood floor. If you want a perfectly uniform look for go for a laminate! Of the almost 40 cases, we discarded maybe 10 pieces for width variation or excessive knots or other defects. 1 in every 4 boxes is pretty darn good. Seemed about par for distribution of short/long pieces. Just remember to consistently mix them in, and save others for closets, and you're good to go. Highly recommend :)

I have bought one box that was the wrong color flooring with bows in the boards then the next box same name and brand with the right colors but could can use because most of those pieces are bad. Now I bought 4 more boxes for just in case these are bad as well. If I didn't think it would cost me more to put new floors down in my entire downstairs I would rip this horrible flooring up and replace. I would not recommend to my anyone.

                        Would not recommend
After completing my DIY project of replacing all carpet in my house with hardwood floors and purchased over 75 cases of Bruce Plano Oak Marsh hardwood floors, I’d say I would not recommend this product. There are many defects and wastes. Some have splits, broken tongues/grooves, and different width and thickness (between 1/16 - 2/16 in. difference). Not to mention the shades of color varies too much. Some are as pale as skin and some as dark as caramel. I started the project with this product so I had no choice but to finish with it.

The claim process is initiated by Home Depot. You can take your proof of purchase back to them, and they can file the claim on your behalf. Looks fabulous once it is installed. Very few problems with installing. This is the second house where we have used this flooring and we keep going back to it.

The Probleme I had were that boards were no all 5 inches wide on both ends. This will cause àn unwanted gap I. The flooring. Also both ends of the Bogards were not always square. This Also causes a gap. Once I figure it out I had to check each Board for with and square before installing. Out of 39 boxes purchased I had to return about 3 boxes. Very dissapointing.
