Purchased these to replace my 17 year old, UV faded shutters. The size & style perfectly matched the old shutters. Installation was fairly straight forward and they look great. For the price, I'm happy with the quality and would have given them a 5 star rating except these shutters are noticeably lightweight and thinner material compared to the older ones. Each pair came with screws and plastic anchors ++. With holes already in our brick from the old shutters, I used the plastic fasteners. That took some finesse to figure out how to insert them without breaking them--. I broke 3 before figuring out a technique-- But that's actually not too bad considering I installed 108 plastic anchors (18 shutters x 6 ea). I thought the 3 broken anchors would be an issue, but that was before I discovered they included a baker's dozen. 13 instead of 12 gave me 1 extra anchor per pair of shutters++.

Don't buy, so flimsy they melt
I installed these last weekend, two are on siding and two are on brick and the ones on the brick actually melted today in the afternoon sun. I called Home Depot and he said I can bring them back. What a pain, I have to take them back down and take them back. the louvers are extremely thin and the summer heat here in the south is just too much for these flimsy things. I can't believe I paid $90 for two sets.

Flimsy & Difficult to Paint
I bought a pair of 15" x 75" Builders Edge shutters from H-D, and have not yet installed them, but was moved to warn others. The shutters are so flimsy that I had to hold the back of the shutter to keep it from bending too much while I was painting them. Couldn't you put a vertical reinforcing piece of plastic cast into the back of the shutter, Builders Edge? Also, I purchased "paintable" type so I could paint to match the other shutters on the house. Using Home Depot's best Behr paint, it will take at least 2 coats of paint because there's a gloss finish on the "paintable" shutters. Couldn't you provide a surface similar to a primed surface? Using good paint, it should NOT take 2+ coats. I'm not a picky person, and this is the first negative review I've ever written. These are junk.

We are sorry to hear that you are not happy with your purchase. We would like to address each issue you have;
The shutters are flexible to allow for expansion and contraction of a polypropylene / polystyrene material. Without this flexibility in the shutter the material would crack. In addition, this flexibility does not in any way compromise the structural integrity of the shutters.
The shutters you purchased / reviewing are not paintable. Our colored shutters will not keep paint on them for very long. They are designed to maintain their color with a life time warranty against fading. When painting our paintable shutters code #030 they should be placed on a flat surface, this would illuminate the need to hold them while painting.
The number of coats of paint used, we are surprised that 2 coats of paint held on a non-paintable shutter. With our #030, priming is always recommended by all paint manufactures and painting technique is also a consideration with the number of coast of paint required. In addition when painting our #030, and any type of polymer it is always recommended that the surface be cleaned with a TSP and free of any oils, including those from handling. Regardless of brand it is important to use the right type of paint. For our paintable shutters the paint should be an exterior latex paint.BuildersEdge
