Best purchase ever

Nice product that looks great once finally installed, but suffers from inadequate & misleading installation instructions. The “Super Ring” corners are solidly made metal and the fabric is good quality and well sewn. Note that there is a major difference between the Colourtree Triangle Sun Shade Sail (their base model) and the “GSM Reinforced (Super Ring)” models: the ends where the sail connects to your structure or poles, although both models come with the same instructions. And while Home Depot lists 2 different mounting hardware kits, neither will work with the “Super Ring” sails because the included snap hook is not large enough. So you will need to figure out for yourself what hardware will be needed to mount the sail in your situation. After watching several YouTube videos on mounting sun shade sails, I got the general idea on the hardware needed and planning where to attach the lag hooks to the house (height, distance from sail edge center and angle to sail. It would have been nice if Colourtree had their own video, as none of the sails in the installation videos I found used the Colourtree sliding cable system. After some experimentation I found that the best approach was to use a ¼” x 2-3/8” stainless spring link through the metal “Super Ring” at each corner. For the corner connected to a galvanized pole the spring link connected to an eye bolt through the pole. At the other 2 corners the spring link connected to a stainless turnbuckle and a stainless wire cable jumper custom made for the distance to the lag hook. See photos. The key to successful installation is to maintain adequate tension on each of the 3 edges to keep them, and the whole sail, tight. After initial installation the fabric does stretch somewhat, with the edges sliding along the stainless cable that loops through all edges. So when installing the sail, make sure that the turnbuckles are fully extended so that you can progressively tighten them as the fabric stretches. One thing we found is that the tension required is bending the galvanized pole that we installed, so we plan to add a guy wire to it to get it back to vertical.

Nice and airy sun shade with heavy duty hinges that does the job well and looks like it will last a long time. I have this product and a lighter 190GSM sail. Although my lighter sail is definitely enough for my home setup I believe this one is going to have a longer life due to the slightly thicker (but not thicker looking) fabric and the reinforced attachment points. Be aware that these products are not made of textile canvas cloth but rather the stuff you see on privacy screens around construction sites. Having said that this is not a disadvantage as the sails look really nice. Installation is easy as long as you make sure the posts you are using are a bit further apart than the sail is wide (Mine are not quite far enough resulting in a slightly saggy look). The mounting hardware is not included so make sure you either have means to fix the sails or you buy it along with them. I have had the sail out for a few weeks now. and have had sun as well as rain and heavy thunderstorms with high wind gusts. So far no sign of degradation. the cable in the edges definitely holds up better than with the lighter duty sails. There are two points of critique: 1) I have some irregularities in the cloth of this sail (see pictures). It seems this is due to the thread running out during weaving and a new thread being spun in. I don't have this on the lighter duty sail. 2) The HD-pictures show the cable nicely strapped around the attachment points. on my sail it sits loose. This might be due to the fact that I have not tightened it much yet and will possibly change as the sail gets older. For now It is something that I don't mind.

This is a high quality, inexpensively priced sail, and it's made in the USA! We'd been kicking around getting a sail to give us a bit of shade over the pool. I figured that a triangular one would suit us best, but even after laying out strings in the approximate location had a tough time deciding between the 28' and the 32'. As it turned out I went with the 28' (the 32' would have worked nicely, too) because we didn't want too much coverage. Colourtree uses high-grade aluminum at the corners with stainless steel aircraft cable run continuously around the perimeter. Now, I got lucky and have three solid attaching points (2 palm trees and the patio roof) without having to "plant" posts. This gives me 9' of clearance at each corner and plenty of room to lower one corner in the rainy season (August). A come along is a must to achieve the proper tension, which is key to keeping the sail stable under windy conditions. I highly recommend this product!

What a great way to add a little shade relief from the hot days of summer. While there are many sizes and shapes available for this Home Depot product, I selected the HUGE 32 foot equilateral triangle and so far it has been fantastic. The quality of the craftsmanship and materials is top-notch. There is a metal cable running around the entire perimeter with heavy-duty metal connection points on the three corners. The cable is designed to take all the stresses rather than the material. The material is 260 GSM 100% non-recycled high-density polyethylene HDPE (not sure what that really means other than it should last for some time). There are many different mounting options depending on an individual’s preference. I wanted to protect my cars while in the driveway from the hot Houston sun as well as a cooler inside temperature when getting into the car – think of third degree burns from the seats and steering wheel. I chose to anchor two corners of the sun shade sail to my fascia board making sure that I also screwed the eye-screws into the underlying rafter. The third connection point was a tree. I used a winch connected to an old basketball pole using a couple of pulleys and along with turnbuckles on the fascia connections to apply tension to the shade sail – see pictures. I do take the shade down during inclement weather such as thunderstorms which normally include strong winds – I don’t want to have any chance of the fascia board being pulled off. There weren't any instructions included but there is a ton of information on the internet. Overall, I am very happy with everything to do with this product and highly recommend it.

I just recieved this yesterday and i cant wait to install it on the patio next to the garage because i have no shade there when I am grilling and once that evening sun comes over there it gets really hot hot hot..I am hoping this will do the trick and give me some shade.now if the rain will go away i might be able to install this sun shade. My wife is hoping for shade too.

Very strong material and hardware, especially around the edges with metal wire. Customer service is awesome that they took care of my minor issue really quick. I would buy again and recommend to my friends.

After several high wind storms, our sail has held up perfectly even at the corners!

Great shade for the patio. The triangle shape fit well in my patio area and the light weight made it easy to install. I used polyethylene rope to tie the 3 ends to my house and garage. It took about thirty minutes total and really cooled off the midday sun. The shade screen is made so some light gets through maybe reducing the light by seventy percent or so.

the colourtree is ready to hung up, the shade sail provides you with just the right amount of shade wherever you need it for my patio area..it was easy to set up with a pre-attached ropes, no tools were needed,this shade was exactly what i needed and I think I will be able to take it down easily when we have one of our big dust storms. and I will take it with us anywhere we go.I highly recommended.

Ive bought other shade sails in my time from various manufacturers. None have worked as well as or looked as good as the ColourTree Super Ring shade sail. This was the perfect solution for the crazy hot summer we’ve been having.

It a good sad and easy to install it

I was about to install my new shade and I realized that I had ordered the wrong hardware. I wrote to the company to see if I could perhaps send the incorrect hardware back to them and they could send me the correct hardware to be used with the Super Rings at the corners on the shade. I received a call a few days later from customer service and they said they would be happy to send me the correct hardware set. I was very surprised and happy. We got the new hardware today and it is much heavier than the set of hardware we had incorrectly ordered. We are part of the Seeds group for Home Depot and we would say this shade and company are top notch!

Well constructed. Color would be closer to a Forest green. Turned out we need a larger one.
