I never got to use it; I am pretty sure it works just fine. But the vertical design is flawed; on my California Air Tools compressor the outlet is oriented horizontally, so I would need to install an elbow pointing up to connect the filter unit. Then the same again on the top if I want to connect the air hose horizontally. This would make for an awkwardly big and unstable contraption. I bought a Husky filter instead that has both ports mounted horizontally at the top of the unit.

I recently ordered one of these to replace an old one I had that lasted for a very long time before it finally gave out. These water/oil filters will work whether you mount them close to your air compressor, or if you mount them at the end of the air hose, close to the tool you are using. The closer to the tool you mount these, the more water they will remove, due to the fact that more condensation builds up in your hose as the air goes through it, Anyway, for those people out there who don't know which direction these things get mounted, you have to refer to the box. If you threw out your box, I have attached a picture of the box mine came in, and here is what it says right on the sides of the box: Air Inlet: 1/4" NPT Male, and Air Outlet: 1/4 NPT Female. It also says that this filter is good for working air pressures up to 90 PSI. I hope this helps the people out there who are questioning how this things mounts! I mounted mine about 8 inches from the outlet of my air compressor to try to trap some of the water and oil that might come out right at the beginning of the air line. And I always use a disposable water filter on the end of the hose where my tools mount to keep the rest of the water out of my tools. Especially my paint guns!

Had questions related to setup since the instructions that were included were for a different model. Called Cal Air Company and started to explain situation. The person was snarky and we got disconnected. Left a message and no return call from company. I promptly contacted Home Depot and they helped me with my return!!! I do not recommend this product because of their company!!!

Nice solid filter, but I wish the description was better on size of it and where it should be installed, so I called the manufacturer to get the information they told me it should be installed as close to the working tool as possible which in my case was the best place for it however your description should give more things like that
